Since 1861, a spectacular, steep eight-mile scenic road that leads to the top of Mount Washington, the highest peak in the Northeast. Drive yourself or take a 2 hour guided tour in company vans. Mt. Washington State Park and the Mt Washington Observatory are at the summit.

We took the 2-hour tour up the auto road. Wayne, our driver, was personable, funny, informative, and a great driver! After reading the reviews here, I was nervous, but I didn't feel scared once with Wayne driving. Two of the three members of my party...More

So... The day we went to drive the Mount Washington Auto Road some rainy weather was working its way across the White Mountains. There were 70 mile per hour winds at the summit, and it was 5 degrees Celsius. A truly crazy experience, and not...More

The auto car road is well maintained and has several turnouts where you can stop your car to cool the brakes and look over the terrain. There are no guardrails and some areas are steep so make sure the driver is afraid of heights.

I'm not a fan of heights at ALL! Being the age of 50 and seeing that life is not a guarantee ...I said I'm doing it! My wife and daughter also wanted to go up to the top really bad. Our driver's name was Rik....More

I did this on my own. The drive was beautiful, a little dicey for the last mile in the fog. Out of this world! So glad I did it. On top, there are several buildings to explore and the visitor center has restroom, museum, and...More

Thank you for this review that points out that it doesn't need to be a clear day to enjoy Mt Washington! Thanks for visiting and enjoying the fog, the people and the changing vegetation zones along the way! Hope to see you again!

Take a trip up a narrow, and I mean narrow, mountain road with little or no guide rails. Most of the road is paved but there are still portions that are dirt. How narrow and steep is it? Well, there are places that you can...More

This is much scarier than the road to Hana in my opinion! No guardrails here on Mt Washington

I'm not sure. There shouldn't be a need to do so there is a booth at the base of the mountain where you buy your tickets and receive a cd for a guided tour if you drive your own car and a packet of info. The guided tours... More
