The fort is a nice, well maintained recreation of the actual Fort at Number 4. The admission is reasonable ($10), and the tour guide very knowledgeable. The woman that runs the place is very condescending and somewhat demeaning, which somewhat spoils the visit.

Visited The Fort at Number 4 in Charleston, NH, a large fortified homestead along the Connecticut River from the 1740s. It's a reconstruction of the buildings based on archaeological excavations. The original fort housed several families of early settlers. This community-run exhibit gives a good...More

A short distance off Interstate 89 at Springfield, VT/Charlestown, NH exit to a historically accurate reconstruction of a frontier fort from 1740. Very inexpensive entry fees ($8 for 55+ seniors), this attraction has a few re-enactors and much to see with a self-guided tour through...More

Great place to experience history. The Fort regularly puts on events, reenactments and annual dinner. Great place to introduce children to history.

This place is totally not worth the money. We went on a sat afternoon and the parking lot was almost empty. Quite a few of the buildings were locked and couldn't get in to see them. Skip this place.

Plenty of good history information, even more if the re-enactors are on site. This is a self-guided replica but you will occasionally get re-enactors on-site.

It is neat to walk through New England History and people are friendly and have a wealth of knowledge about the time period. Call if you are looking to see a reenactment since they have certain days for that. Take the time to visit the...More
