Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Remember Red Rock Canyon now requires you to make a reservation and pay an extra fee. This trail starts from the Sandstone Quarry parking lot, so it is not marked from the the main loop. On weekends be there early. If the lot is full a park ranger will move you away. Most people are there for the scenery and little climbs near the lot. Few people actually go up to Turtlehead Peak. It is not an easy climb. Takes me about 2 hours up, one hour down. Few places where your hands may come into play. Do the rest of us favor. This is not a trail for little puppies or little kids. You can't get lost but you can easily go off the main trail. And yes, you can slide down the canyon. You do a get a 360 degree view of Las Vegas and the valley at the top. But having done this a million times, for me it is just a work out.

Steep short hike just outside Vegas. Trail is not marked real well so not really for inexperienced hikers. Some sketchy parts so make sure you have appropriate footware.

Hiked this alone, 3 hours up and back, I am 60+ but in reasonable shape. Great views from the top, interesting terrain variations on the way up, bit of a slog in places. Trail is easier walking in top third, but not too clearly marked. Don’t worry, they all end up in the same place. Other people on the trail, so no worries if you are solo.

Turtlehead Peak is one of the more difficult trails in Red Rock Canyon. It is approximately 5-6 miles in total. There some difficult uphill sections. But once on get to the top the view are incredible.
Tips:
The trail is well marked at first, but when the difficult uphill section starts, the trail isn't well marked. Either way, you will still be going in the right direction. But, it is best if you stay on the left side of the ridge, until you get to the upper ridge. Then bare right.
Bring lots of water, and sunscreen. There are very little shaded area on this hike.
It costs $15 per car to get into Red Rock Canyon.

This was our first hike at Red Rock Canyon. Definitely meets its strenuous label. It was a straight uphill hike with some areas of poorly marked trails. There were some sections where the trail was not clearly delineated. Lots of loose gravel and slippery at times. Wear sturdy hiking boots for this one and definitely long pants in case you slip your footing. The view at the top of the mountain is gorgeous. We were there in midday and it was not too chilly at the top. Offers great view of the Strip, Lake Mead and all the surrounding suburbs and deserts. Careful on your way down. Bring a walking stick and windbreaker for this hike in Red Rock.
