I make the drive to Vegas often. On this trip we decided to visit some of the local and less local parks, and on this date it was Red Rock Canyon. The park is a pay to enter park run by the US Park Service. It was nearly free. You could walk, bike, motorcycle into the park. The paved circuit... More

Every time we have guests coming to Vegas, we always take them to Red Rock Canyon. It's just a 45 minute drive from Las Vegas and one of the best place to take them and discover a little of the history of rocks that abound in the desert.

Nature's beauty just 9 miles and another world from the Strip. There is an entrance fee, but remember there is a lifetime national park pass for seniors. The scenic loop is about 15 miles and is one way, so allow time. You can visit the great gift shop and nature center, see views and walk a bit, without taking the... More

Get away from the muck. About a 30 minute drive west on Charleston Blvd. Be sure to stop in at the Visitor's Center - a notch above most and well worth the diversion. You can do it in a couple hours if you just drive the loop or make it a day trip with a hike or 2. If you... More

We aren't hikers but totally enjoyed a nice leisurely drive thru Red Rock Canyon. So many different rock formations and colors. The park offers a variety of hiking paths, something for all ability levels. Saw a few rock climbers even. Used our senior pass so to get such a beautiful experience for free was extra nice.

Beautiful views! Also stop at the ranger station. They had a talk about the herds of wild burros and horses in or near the park. They brought a burro to the station so we could see one up close. He even has his own business card! Great place to explore by car and hike.

Set in the the mountains, about 25 mins from the Las Vegas strip, is this beautiful hiking area that resembles the colors found in Utah. It's a nice break from the casinos and restaurants, to get out into fresh air. There are a lot of spots along the main road to pull over and take a walk.

I had a great time sightseeing here but it was awfully cold. I wish I would have worn warmer clothes. I checked out the North rim and caught some nice pics
