Great hiking area

Also great for snowshoeing or cross country skiing in the winter. One of my favorite local trails. Very pretty.

We walked this a couple of days after a snowfall. Just enough snow left to give it a bit of a winter feel. Nicely done short trail. Path is excellent shape and mostly very level. Only 1.2 miles long. Nice places to stop all along the way. Adequate parking and has a restroom on grounds. Main drawback is that the... More

Went up to the Mt. Rose summit trail for a couple of hours of hiking in Sept. The air was thin because you are about 7000ft up but the trail is fairly level with a few spots of uphill. Its the uphill parts that you begin to huff and puff a little more than normal. From the parking lot its... More

We ha e been doing this little walk for years on our way up highway 431 to incline from Reno. We use it to adjust to the altitude and have a lunch break. Good for wildlife - have seen ground dogs and golden eagles this year, but other years have been great for butterflies,or wild flowers. Easy paths for push... More

Bring your water but mostly bring yourself to experience some fabulous views. You can walk sections of the trial or as our Sons the entire trial. It is breathtaking as well as calming. Words will not describe that feeling, that craving to see more. Enjoy its intensity, enjoy the splendor.

This is not the easiest hike around Lake Tahoe, but if you make it up to the summit it is worth it. We used our GPS on this one and it had us at 5.2 miles from the trailhead to the summit (just over 10 miles out and back). It was just about the same on the return hike. The... More

Several years back I hiked the entire Rim Trail and loved every minute. It is gorgeous, and if you live in the area, an opportunity to get to know "Mr. Roger's Neighborhood. Since then, I continue to go back and hike different sectors at different times in the summer. For example, Relay Peak is ablaze in color when the yellow... More

I have not hiked the full Tahoe Rim trail, but only segments on day hikes. Overall, the Rim Trail provides great vistas and most of the trail is fairly well marked and not too difficult. I've done it all in tennis shoes and without poles although I may change that approach after hiking Mt. Rose a few weeks ago!

I hiked about 6 miles a day for our five day visit. The Mt. Rose hike was the favorite. We didn't attempt the summit trail this trip but, did the 6 mile loop. The views of the lake and the mountains were spectacular. Another great hike was the one at Echo Lake on the south end of Lake Tahoe. Lake... More
