We stumbled upon thus because we were staying at the Bürgenstock hotel. Highly recommended and you can walk back down no problem.

Stunning views
Jul. 2019 • Couples
This was our first lift train experience on our trip and didn’t disappoint. It runs quite frequently and wasn’t terribly crowded. We stayed at the resort above so we rode at no charge , used it many times and enjoyed the scenic views!

Expensive but good to do once
Jul. 2019 • Friends
This lift is said to be the highest exterior lift in Switzerland, so of course you have to go up once! It costs 18 CHF return and as the lift is also fast it seems very expensive. We walked over from Villa Honegg and went down it first, then had a walk locally and came back up afterwards. Beautiful views which you do not need the lift for. I would not do it again for that price.

Amazing views
Jul. 2019 • Family
Lovely views. Very quick ride to the top with a lovely little cafe and tables to sit and enjoy the view. The hike up is about 30 minutes and well worth it. Discount for children!

An Absolute Must!
Jun. 2019 • Family
When I first started researching about Switzerland for our June 2019 trip I saw this lift and put it on the required list. It was quite a hike to get to the lift, but it was worth every sweat drop and sore muscle. The views are remarkable. I enjoyed the boat ride, the ride up the mountain and of course the lift. Signage at the resort could be clearer as we wandered around quite a bit trying to find where to go, but it was worth it. I could not believe that more people were not taking part in this activity. You must put this on your list. The restaurants were VERY EXPENSIVE so we just split a cold sandwich and chips from the gift shop and waited for dinner until we returned to town. Great experience.

A very nice break from Zurich, combined with a visit to Lucerne
May 2019 • Friends
Since it's not very clear, here is what to do to get to the lift from Zurich.
- Book a return ticket from Zurich HB to Kehrsiten-Burgenstock. The ideal itinerary you will find, has you travel first via train to Lucerne, and then to Kehrsiten-Bürgenstock via a ferry. In general, you can board any of the ferries that head to Kehrsiten-Bürgenstock (unless it specifies so on your ticket - check the Ferry departures board as you leave the train station for which one you might take), so you could have a look around Lucerne for a bit. Return ticket price in 2019 from Zurich is about CHF 84,-
- Once you arrive via the ferry, you will have to buy a return ticket for the Funicular train that will take you up to the Bürgenstock resort (you can, theoretically hike, but unless you're kitted out to do so, you're not going to want to do that). The Funicular is literally right in front of where the ferry unloads. Return ticket price in 2019 is about CHF 50,-
- When you arrive at the resort, you can look around the observation area in the gift shop, and also on the patio. You will notice signs on the large outside patio that will point you in the right direction for the hiking trail to the Lift. The total hike time is about 30-40 minutes and is easy-slightly moderate (there are shortcuts that point up steep stairs that will make the total hike closer to 30 minutes). Many benches along the way allow you to rest - there's also an interactive portion with a web-enabled cell phone or tablet that you will see along the way. You won't need extensive gear, other than a good pair of shoes (and even good walking shoes will be OK) - and if you're used to using a walking pole or stick, you can bring that as well.
- When you reach the elevator, you'll pay another CHF 18,- for a return ticket to the top. At the top there is a dining and patio area, toilets, and a small cafe where you can get hot food with local specials - pricing is a bit on the high side - but not unreasonable, and "keine Karte!!!!!" (no credit cards accepted) -- depending on time of day, a nice lunch at one of the many resort restaurants might be a bit more relaxing.

On the way back there was some drama to catch the Funicular in time to catch the Ferry back to Lucerne - so get to the Funicular departure early if you absolutely need to be back in time.

All in all a good way to explore off the beaten path of the traditional Zurich and Lucerne day trips.

A very nice 30 minutes walk to the Lift
Sep. 2018
The one way ride to the Top cost 10 francs and return is only 13 francs so we bought return ticket or else you can walk about 1 hour 20 minutes back to Bürgenstock resort where you can take the post auto to Stanstad or take the shuttle boat back to Lucern .Its really worth the hike to the lift from Bürgenstock because the view of the lake is amazing and the hike trail is flat with some stairs to climb and you are under the shadow of the trees even in a hot summer day.
We took the shuttle boat from Lucern to Kehrsiten and cable train to Bürgenstock resort the ticket cost 12.50 /person one way .highly recommended👍👍👍

Special adventure

This free standing elevator on the mountain is an adventure. Unbelievable that it is 100 years old already!! People today are impressed, how must it have been back then?
