The Golden Spike Tower overlooks Union Pacific's bailey yard and contains a small gift shop, displays and photos depicting the history. After watching the video and having a complimentary coffee you can head up the lift to the two observation levels one indoor and the other outdoor. More displays and another video are on the indoor level. It is interesting... More

We are on the RV road again looking for interesting places near our RV Park and our TA app has directed us to the Golden Spike. The staff was very friendly and helped us with every question. The free coffee was not past up and was really good during the video history of the railroad. Our self guided tour gave... More

Recently stopped by the Golden Spike to check it out. This is a fun stop for little kids all the way to the train buffs. The top of the spike is a great vantage point to look out over the yard and really witness everything going on. I'm sure I could've sat there for hours and just watched everything taking... More

I am not a train guy. Still, when passing through I thought this would be a worthwhile and educational stop. The Bailey Yard is an impressive operation. The tour consists of a video overview and then you work your way up the tower. There are knowledgeable guides on each level that help you understand what you are seeing. This place would... More

Visited in summer of 2014 at the tail end of a three-day rail photography sojourn through western Nebraska. This place not only lived up to all the hype, but massively exceeded it! Parking is wonderful for those with RVs, The staff is very gracious and knowledgeable, including the retired UPRR employees who love to sit with and go through all... More

If you are a railroad nut or just want to have fun with the kids you have to go and see this. Biggest railroad switching station this side of the Mississippi and there was over 100 locomotives on hand also, just great.

Even if you are not a train buff, this is a fascinating place. Just to see the size of the rail yard is overwhelming along with the sounds of the trains. I was lucky enough to be there when a retired railroad man was on the observation deck providing insight and answering questions. Good video, also.

This was a fascinating, interesting, engaging educational look behind the scenes of railroading in the modern world. Union Pacific has done a great job showing visitors how trains are assembled, engines maintained, just how much gain traffic moves across the country and through North Platte. There also is interesting history here. You don't want to pass this up.

This is a must see for anyone. There is a video that acquaints you with the Railroad history that is very good. All the memorabilia that is displayed is great. The tower is manned by volunteers that were former employees of the Union Pacific Railroad. The gentleman that was there when we visited was awesome! He shared so many facts... More

My wife loves trains and the Golden Spike is just off Hwy 80, so stopping by for a look was a no brainer. The exhibit and film clip covering the "Orphan Trains" that ran from 1854 to1929 carrying unwanted children from New York was, to say the least, moving. Besides that, learning about the scale of the Bailey Yard from... More
