Visited on promise of exciting re-enactors. Turned out they were there to amuse themselves, not the visitors. My well-behaved kid, who has pretty low expectations, felt very unwelcome. Was very disappointed with whole experience.

Made this our first stop on our Oregon Trail route and my boys loved being able to run around and see what life used to be like.

Fort Kearney has a very nice little museum which is about the early pioneers and the importance of the Fort Kearney site! Most interesting to history lovers and early-Kearney history especially.

Much of the time, state historic sites are unable to link themselves to a larger story outside of their own but Fort Kearny is an exception. This site was interesting and I could easily understand how it gained national significance in the 1840s and 1850s...More

There are some parts of this place that are well presented, such as the armory. But with others, it requires a lot of imagination to envision a living, breathing frontier fort. We don't need there to be re-enactors or anything lavish (and expensive!) like that,...More

The fort is recreated, not original. But some interesting history, nice staff, and a nice place to walk around.

Very interesting and informative! Stopped by the very beginning of my trip in Nebraska-wow what welcoming and kind people - Took all the time I needed to explain to me how to find the sandhill crane viewing areas, the park and hiking trails. The place...More

There isn't much to the attraction. It is where you have to go to get your passes for other areas. They do have crane viewing areas during the migration, but nothing special.

We probably spent 1-2 hours. We saw the video and walked the grounds.
