Wonderful Visit of an Icelandic Goat Farm
Jul. 2021
We visited on July, 2021 as part of a tour. This is a wonderful place not to be missed. The goats are so friendly and you can purchase homemade Jam, cheese, pictures, etc. Joann and her family will take all the time needed to answer any questions. You can have your picture taken with Casanova, one of the original goats in Game of Thrones. Joann and her family are saving these purebred Icelandic goats.

Great family outing
Jul. 2021 • Family
Our grandchildren, 2 and 4 years had a wonderful time watching and stroking these pure Icelandic bred goats, as did we grandparents and parents. They wander freely in a large grass field. Very friendly and informative staff made the visit even better. We had tasty goats milk ice cream and coffee at the little café.

Nice diversion
Jun. 2021
We visited the goat farm after seeing the lava cave in Husafell. It is easy to find, and we were the only ones there, so we were able to ask a lot of questions about the goats. You can pet the goats on the farm and then you wash your hands, clean off your shoes, and are given various foods to taste and purchase if you'd like. This is a great activity for kids! We had a lot of fun and would recommend if you are in the area.

Amazing location; extremely busy
Jul. 2021 • Couples
This is in a stunning location, with a river in the valley below and huge white top of a glacier in the distance. The road to access it varies between paved and unpaved so it is better to have a 4x4 car to visit the farm.

The farm was extremely busy when we visited with a long queue of people waiting to be admitted to the paddock where one could pet the goats who all seemed friendly. There was also a chicken coup which you could visit towards the back of the farm.

There was a decent gift shop, selling drinks, snacks and lots of mostly goat related souvenirs.

Only goat farm in Iceland
Aug. 2019 • Friends
We visited Háafell Geitfjársetur in August. We arrived past the closing time but we had called before to advertise and they’ve been so kind to keep the farm open extra time and allow us to visit. A girl accompanied us inside the fence to know the most sociable goats while telling us the history of their family farm. Thanks to her explanation, we discovered that no other goat farm exists in Iceland, for Icelandic people prefer to breed sheep. We also discovered that goats are loving and extremely clever. Moreover, that very farm hosts a star-goat who acted in a famous movie! We concluded the visit by drinking some goat milk and buying some homemade food.

Great if you love goats!

My friend and I went on our own after contacting them to set a tour during the off season, so it was just the 2 of us. She clearly cares very much for her goats and was a wealth of information on goats and the area in general (we had an issue with our rental car and she directed us to the closest place that could help). The feta was fantastic and the goats are adorable. Keep in mind, this is *not* a “petting zoo.” This is an actual, functioning farm and you will step in a lot of goat poop, but it’s 100% worth it.

Gorgeous goats and a passionate proprietor!
Jul. 2019
I'm a local who lives on the Snæfellsnes peninsula and although I had heard wonderful things about Jóhanna the goat farmer, I had never visited her goat farm. My partner and I decided to make the 1.5 hour drive to her place on a warm summer day.

After arriving there around 3 pm, I think we ended up staying at Háafell until just before it closed at 6. The weather was mild with little wind, and this was perfect for hanging out in the field where the goats graze, lay, and take in the sun. Upon arrival, we met Jóhanna herself, who directed us to join a tour that was about to leave. Tours cost 1500 kr and we were happy to support Jóhanna's mission of restoring this nearly-extinct unique breed of goats back to Iceland.

After meeting up with the guide, we walked around with her while she (in Icelandic) told us about how this farm came to be and how Icelandic goats are something very special. I'm used to goats being very "hyperactive" but this group was friendly and subdued. The goats are raised in a calm environment - it is forbidden for young visitors to chase the goats or frighten them - but everyone is welcome to pet or even pick up willing new goat friends.

Once the short tour was done, we walked around the pasture and met a variety of nanny goats and their kids along with the occasional billy goat. They are beautiful and oh so soft! We relaxed in the grass and enjoyed the tranquil environment that is Háafell.

When it was time to go, we returned to the little shop / reception area to sample goat sausage, goat cheese, and the various wonderful oils, soaps, and more that Jóhanna produces using nearby flora.

If it wasn't a bit of a long drive from where I'd live, I'd go back to Háafell in a heartbeat on another sunny day. Takk fyrir mig, Jóhanna!

Lots of baby goats
Jul. 2019 • Friends
Stopped here for an hour to learn and pet the Icelandic goats. There’s a short tour that explains about how they are raised (roaming free on acres of land)
Which movies they were a part of (no spoilers). And allows you to pet and play with them. (There were a bunch of super sweet babies.)
It costs 1500 isk for the tour and you can taste and buy different types of goat cheese, goat sausage and jams in the small store.
Overall a very nice experience.

Very enjoyable
Jul. 2019 • Family
What a lovely place. Everyone is very friendly and welcoming and the experience is extremely relaxed. Our guide ran us through the history of the Icelandic goat and the farm and then we were left to enjoy the company of the friendly goats. Honestly, I exoected this to be a 15 minute stop between other sights as we were passing but we ended up spending a couple of hours there. A lovely chilled afternoon. Excellent value too!

If you like goats then you will like this farm
Jul. 2019 • Family
My 16 year old daughter and 10 year old son loved this opportunity to walk among the goats, lift them up and pet them. The guide was very informative and friendly. I enjoyed it as well, but did NOT like the very long drive (about 8-9km) to the farm on one of Iceland's gravel roads. I was worried about our rental car getting damaged the entire way. If you really like goats, then you will enjoy this farm but I wouldn't recommend it otherwise.
