Well worth the hike

This is a great half day trip from Bozeman. Joe was skeptical about the walk both to the cavern and inside because of all the steps. It turned out to be well worth the effort. We... read more

This is a great half day trip from Bozeman. Joe was skeptical about the walk both to the cavern and inside because of all the steps. It turned out to be well worth the effort. We did not need out jackets until the end of the tour even though we bought a sweatshirt at the gift shop. It was in... More

This was a fun activity that can be enjoyed by the whole family. I was on a pretty large tour of out 40 people. The lady at the ticket stand said the usually cut it off at 25, but it was a busy a weekend and the tour guides where allowing more than usual on the tours. Our tour guide... More

Lewis and Clark Caverns is a site that anyone visiting SW Montana must visit. The entrance fees are very affordable. The caverns are open from mid-spring/mid-May until September with the exception of the Christmas time candle light tours in December. When visiting the caverns, it is important to know that the hike to the entrance of the caverns is steep... More

The walk to the caverns is worth every step. The caverns are a guided tour that explains how the caverns were discovered, how the first tours had women in full dresses climbing down rope ladders carrying lanterns. The guide will take you into the deepest part of the cave and then will turn off all lights to show you how... More

This is an excellent caverns to see stalactites and stalagmites in all their glory. Very interesting history and formations. Long walk so be sure to use the restroom prior to departing the visitor center. Great for kids. Very educational about geology and the surrounding area. Highly recommended.

This has always been one of the smaller roadside "attractions" that we blow by as we cross the country. This time, however, we laid over in Three Forks and made a day trip to the caverns. Apparently, not really related to L and C but it is a truly amazing couple of hour trip. Way more hands on than Mammoth... More

I never get tired of visiting the Lewis & Clark Caverns during their regular season, but doing the candlelight tour in late December is a special treat that should be on your bucket list. an experience you will never forget. it's a bit of a hike to the entrance but an exciting decent into the cavern with a knowledgeable guide... Not for the faint of heart but it`s a great tour. There is some duck-walking,some sliding on the butt, and a lot of places to bump ones head but worth the trouble.Glad I did this after years of driving by the signs. The deeper you go the more spectacular the formations. Our guide was great-knew the system and history well and was very pleasant.

Be warned....there are over 600 stairs and tight squeezes in the tour. The hike up to the entrance is about 1/2 mile and is a moderate grade. The information on the website is lacking. I was on a tour with a pregnant woman and I am not in great shape. It was difficult for both of us. The guides are... More

The history around this area is very interesting. Our guide actually told us that Lewis & Clarke never discovered these caverns, although they were on the nearby river. If you suffer from claustrophobia this is not for you. as you had to bend quite low in many parts and in one section you had to slide over the rocks. Walking... More
