Ft. Benton has a unique history as a trade center and with the steamboat epoch. The museums at the Old Fort Park and very professional done and they tell a different story than the average mining or frontier museum that you run into all across the west. We spent 2 hours at the museum and could've spent more but we... More

Spent 3 days in Fort Benton and area. The museums do an amazing job of telling the history of the area and the whiskey/fur trades up into Canada. Agriculture museum is also a gem. A real walk through time with great displays of antique equipment and storytelling of life in the early 1900s. Buy the two day admission which gives... More

One of the best small town museums you will ever see. Don't let to small town atmosphere fool you, the museums are first class. All three museums for one price of $8. My wife and I are docents at our museum in Arizona so we know a bit about museums. Don't miss this one folks they are amazing. You will... More

Given the small size of Fort Benton (just 1,200 or so), one might not expect it to have the best museums. And yet their museums are exceptionally well done - many of the displays and artefacts were impressive and it seemed a genuine shame that so few people were visiting the museums when we were there. The museums are of... More

Went here on our way through Montana and were glad we did. Entry fee to the museum gets you into the old Fort and everything else there. We went to the Interperative Center first. You can use your Nat'l Parks Pass for free entrance here and for a discount at the Museum, Very interesting History of The Missouri River and... More

A lot of effort has gone into restoring the fort and telling its story. This is not the Little Big Horn battlefield but it does tell the story of the dangers of western expansion in the 19th century.

We really enjoyed the history of this town. The museums and hard surface walkways with history signs and story boards made it and interesting place to visit.

My husband and I were visiting Great Falls, MT(enjoyable) and took a side trip to Ft. Benton, about 45 minutes north on Highway 87. Loved the museums and the gorgeous town and the Missouri River. We walked everywhere and enjoyed. This is worth your time! We had a picnic in the park by the river near the Visitor's Center too.... More

For a town as small as Fort Benton, this museum was fantastic! Several exhibit rooms. Loved the different collectibles from different eras. The village had so many different buildings with displays in each. Being a retired teacher, the one-room schoolhouse was my favorite. Do not miss this museum! $8 per person for all three museums-bargain!

This area has a lot of history and is tied in to the open range era of this nation. Conrad Kohrs came threw there as did Lewis and Clark. There is not enough detail on the historical aspects of the area. There is an enormous amount of our nations background and the history of the west that should be dealt... More
