About
Soulard Market is the oldest farmers market west of the Mississippi established in 1779 and is open Wednesday-Saturday. We have local farmers, one organic farmer, a world class bakery, spice shop, and many produce vendors that handle local and shipped in produce. The market also carries a variety of other general merchandise like shirts, jewelry, incense, sports memorabilia, hand made soaps, carpet, photography and hand made crafts. We are open 52 weeks a year. Our location is within a mile of Busch Stadium, Anheuser-Busch Brewery, the Gateway Arch & Riverboat Cruises, and the National Blues Museum. Our neighborhood is home to approx. 40 restaurants & bars, historic homes, and live music 7 days a week.

- Mike MChampaign-Urbana, Illinois307 contributionsTraditional Farmers MarketWe’ve been here a couple of times over the years and you get what you pay for. We made sure and paid cash for everything. Supposedly you get a little price break by doing that. There is a little bartering that goes on so give it a try too. Be sure and look over all the vendors before buying anything. Multiple vendors sell the same produce but at different pricing. The food is good, vegetables were fresh and there are plenty of characters to converse with. It was enjoyable. A local also told us not to waste our money paying for parking but to park in the neighborhood and walk down, which we did.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 27 November 2023
- rickbrennanrnTrinity, Florida642 contributionsOnly go on the weekend.Went on a Friday in December, so there were a lot of empty booths. I would guess the place is popping on the weekends and in warmer weather. Good selection of fruits and vegetables, with some decent prices. Several spots to get baked goods and farm fresh meats and eggs. Also, a few booths selling prepared foods and cocktails. Parking lot we used was $1 per hour. There were signs about a free lot for next time. I'd skip the Thursday and Friday trips and stick to the weekends to see more options.Visited December 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 8 December 2023
- Jill M60 contributionsClean and FriendlyWent on a Saturday late morning. The market was clean and moderately busy. There didn't seem to be a directional/organized flow of walking through, people meandered from one side to the other in both directions. The vendors were helpful and weren't too pushy. Be aware that some vendors only take cash, and can use that as a way to get a automatic "tip" from the change. Be sure to count your change if using cash. Parked on the metered street about a block away. Saw a meter maid, so be sure to pay the meter!Visited August 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 18 August 2024

All of the pictures allude to a bustling, full market with tons of variety and choices. It is 11am on a Thursday and this couldn't be further from the truth. There are roughly half a dozen open stands and of those, 3 of them are shilling mass market produce. The meat, coffee/tea, and spice stands don't allow entry so there's no way of knowing what is being offered. I paid for extra time on my parking expecting to stroll around and spend a decent amount of time. What a waste. Don't bother coming here.

Went to Soulard Market early on a Wednesday afternoon only to find it pretty abandoned. Apparently the primary time to go is on the weekend from Friday to Sunday. All the produce was gone and only a few of the permanent retail spice and food shops are opened from Wednesday to Sunday.

We spent a long summer weekend in St. Louis. I was pretty excited to visit the Soulard Farmer’s Market based on what I’d read online. My online research indicated that the market would be open on a Friday.
We had a decent time…but the market itself disappointed, at least from a tourism perspective. Friday morning seemed pretty quiet; most of the booths were closed or empty, as were the small stores in the center of the market. We’d gone hoping for a late breakfast—a delicious pastry somewhere, perhaps, and some coffee. Both of those were not to be found!
That said, the vendors that were present had a nice array of produce and meats; if you were staying at a house or cooking a meal, it’d be a super-fun place to buy your ingredients. There were a fair number of locals doing their shopping.
People seemed to indicate Saturday would be a better day for things like fresh breads, flowers, etc., or grabbing a light bite. We didn’t make it back on Saturday.

Prices are great for most fresh produce. Vendors are pleasant overall. We went home happy with fresh bread, fresh fruits, fresh flowers, smoked pork chops, frozen homemade seafood canalloni and also tried a fresh tamale. We will return, as we go 2-3x per year.

Checked on Google, made sure there was no seasonal hour changes, and it clearly stated they were open Wednesday through Saturday, closed Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. We get there this morning plan on a big trip, Walking through the farmers' market, so excited. And there were literally 5 booths open. So disappointing. Please update the website that most people check.

Visited this market for the first time this last weekend. Due to it being January, not all vendors were present, but there was still an amazing variety of goods to choose, from baked goods to pasta to fresh fruits and vegetables to a wide variety of meats in the meat market. Such as shark, alligator tail, coon, frog legs, you name it! The bakery was amazing. I bought Focaccia bread and a pasta sauce. The bread was DELICIOUS! We plan to go back again!

My family and I toured the soulard Farmers Market on a very warm, muggy Saturday. However, warm and muggy as it WAS, it was so fun that I kept going from booth to booth till I had seen it all! The veggies looked great, the meat and spice markets were inviting, etc. but the mix of people was the best part...everyone having fun, looking for fresh produce and good things to eat! I'd certainly go back again and again....the vendors were friendly and the building itself was very interesting! The bathrooms were relatively clean in spite of all the foot traffic! All in all, it was delilghtful!

Soulard market is where you go on Fridays and Saturdays to grab all those fruits and veggies that are expensive at your grocery store. Just bring them home and wash them.
This is a must if you want fresh healthy foods at affordable prices.

If your a people watcher then get on down to the market it’s a genuine all sorts adventure
I went in on a Saturday and was hustled, bustled and pushed up and down the aisles with expending any of my own energy - felt a bit like a mosh pit
So hot sweaty , parched and a little disoriented we (albeit I said solo) debunked at the next exit
I returned the following Friday when half the stalls were open being the Labour Day long weekend - this time by myself
So the people watching began , casual chats with marketeers and long chat with a crew from the St Louis Fire department boot collecting for Jerry Lewises program supporting kids with muscular dystrophy-
An array of fruit and veg, some meat and deli locations , artisan breads , Bric a brac and all other things one can think of and sometimes wouldn’t
So worth a look which ever day you go but hopefully if not busy have a natter as you go

How do I add a restaurant to Trip Advisor. Was visiting St. Louis, MO for BBQ? Finished burnt ends at a restaurant, disappointed, when I discovered Norton's Cajun Corner in Soulard Farmers Market. At closing time I got a bowl of Jambalaya. Cooking all day the rice was mush. That said the Jambalaya, sans rice, was delicious, 4 stars.

Where do we get those highly rated Bloody Marys?
Written 11 August 2016
Norton’s Cajun Corner, located inside the Grand Hall, has a fabulous Ragin Cajun and full food menu. They are open Wed-Sat.
Julia’s Market Cafe is on the SW corner of the market and features a patio, and has great Bloody Mary’s too!
Everyone has one while they shop- it’s a tradition on Saturdays.
