An authentic player piano fills the air with Scott Joplin melodies as you walk through the modest flat on Delmar Boulevard that Joplin and his wife Belle lived in during their time in St. Louis. Lit by gaslight, the home is furnished as it would have been in 1902 when Joplin was composing songs that would make him a national phenomenon. Scott Joplin House State Historic Site, which stands as a testimony to his talent and hard work, also includes museum exhibits that interpret Joplin’s life. The Rosebud Café, a reconstructed structure that recreates a turn-of-the-century bar and gaming club, is available for rent.

Some great historical context about rag. Many things to learn. Not crowded. The house itself isn't much, and seeing the 'rooms' ... meh. The music and history - yes.

We stopped by late in the day, close to closing. The tour guides were kind enough to squeeze in a tour for us, and one got the sense of what it was like for Scott Joplin to live and compose in Saint Louis at the...More

Most of us know some ragtime music, from the film " The Sting" if nowhere else. Scott Joplin lived in this house for only two years, but it was during a productive time in his career. Seeing inside the house is interesting, the furniture is...More

The house is rather bare bones but the guide has loved ragtime and joplin since he was 7! He has done a lot of the joplin research and loves to pass on what he knows. Hearing recordings of joplins music on the old player piano...More

The Scott Joplin House is interesting, although, as others have noted, there is little in the way of original artifacts in the House. The House itself is quite charming and gives a good sense of what life was like when Joplin lived there. What made...More

This is a small and quaint museum. I enjoyed hearing some history about the American Ragtime Composer. The stories were really interesting. The parking is easy here. The player piano brought back memories of my childhood! Really nice museum!

I have been waiting for a couple weeks to go there, and the time I did, we all enjoyed it. It had a lot of information, and it was fun to visit, I won't spoil it, but my favorite part was the last room!
