Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Absolutely fantastic. It was a brilliant trip with so many photo opportunities. Valerie was so generous with her time and photographic knowledge, spending time with one on ones, group talks and giving ideas to try. Valerie also organised photography sessions in beautiful places, sunsets and sunrises, walks up to lighthouses, walking around the ruins and a gorgeous model posing on yacht with amazing blue/turquoise water backgrounds . I learnt so much about exposure and composition during my time away. Came home buzzing with ideas to try and wanting to join her next expedition. I thoroughly recommend photography trips with Valerie.

What a sensational trip in Greece made magic by those early morning/late evening sunrise/sunset sessions on tips and tricks to achieve stunning shots, and the amazing knowledge I gained every day on all things to do with photography. Began as a complete novice and can now take photographs confidently in all lights, situations and learnt more than I ever imagined I possibly could in such a short time. Valerie you are a gem to learn from..ever patient, always fun and helpful and oh so incredibly talented in this field. Thank you thank you. From Jan on Greece trip September 2018

I loved the time I spent in Ethiopia on Valerie Martins Photographic Tour. I have been on several photographic tours however this trip was made even better by the fact that Valerie is such a competent, considerate and very helpful photographer. It is difficult to pick out just one memorable or exciting part as the various experiences in Ethiopia were all very special. The extraordinary beauty of the Simien Mountains and the chance to see the gelada baboons at such close quarters; the rock-hewn churches of Lalibela; and the opportunity to see the way of life of the different tribes in the South. I had such an amazing time and have brought home very fond memories of Ethiopia with lots of sensational photos. I am looking forward to Valerie Martin’s tour to Japan in 2019.

Seeing Ethiopia as part of a Valerie Martin Photographic Tour was a fantastic way to experience the country and its people while travelling with a like minded group of people. This tour enabled us to access incredibly interesting places and to make the most of the situation through the professional photographic expertise of the tour leaders. As a result, I improved my photographic skills and have come back with some great pics and an appreciation of the beauty and diversity of Ethiopia. A very professionally run tour with excellent local guides and logistics.

We really enjoyed having Valerie as our tour leader on a very interesting holiday in Ethiopia. This is a packed full tour, including churches and tribes, markets and mountains. My favourite day was visiting the Galada monkeys. The monkeys are very attractive to look at and are grass eaters. The pastures where they eat are overgrown with Thyme and the air was filled with its fragrance.
Valerie is patient and kind when explaining various camera techniques and generous with her time.
Hopefully we may be able to join Valerie on a future trip. Maybe to Japan.

An extraordinary trip into the real Ethiopia; North and South.
Valerie is so very organised, kind, dynamic, knowledgeable and generous. Her photographic support was fantastic and I learned more about photography during this 3 weeks than I have in years! Don't hesitate, you will certainly congratulate yourself for participating in one of her photographic tours.

Thanks for your kind words about the photo tour to Ethiopia. It was a pleasure having you with us as we explored this amazing country from the rock hewn churches and gelada baboons to the photogenic tribes down south. Delighted you felt you learnt a lot more about photography and your camera and look forward to seeing you again in the not too distant future.

Valerie has many years of experience in travel photography, it's on my bucket list to do some of her photography tours. I've just been to some of her photography classes, she's a delight to be around and her gentle manner of teaching will show you how to enjoy your camera and take much better photographs. Her knowledge of photography and travel is so extensive, you're in very good hands, I'd highly recommend an adventure with Valerie.

I have signed up for a couple of Valerie's photography courses over the last few years and have learnt an incredible amount from her, enabling me to take my photography to the next level.
Valerie is such a wonderful and patient teacher, I never feel like I am asking a silly question and her workshops are always relaxed and fun. I really enjoyed the level of personal attention that Valerie gave me and the assignments that she sets. The assignments really helped me to consolidate what I was learning.
I also went on one of Valerie's Photography tours, sailing around the islands of Thailand on a 55ft Catamaran and had the most incredible trip! Not only was the trip very well organised, running like clockwork, no hassles and everything thought of, I took some amazing photos after Valerie's expert travel photography tuition, and I made some fabulous friends from around the globe with whom I still keep in touch.
I highly recommend Valerie's classes and trips to anyone wanting to improve their skills from complete beginners to more experienced photographers, she is a fantastic teacher.

I recently completed a photography course with Valerie having had no previous experience with a DSLR camera. Valerie was super patient with everyone and was just enthusiastic for them to learn and love photography as much as she does! The course was thoroughly enjoyable, fun and I learnt a whole lot! I would MASSIVELY recommend anyone who is a beginner or an intermediate wanting to hone their photography skills to go on a course with Valerie.

I have attended both group and private lessons with Val over approximately 5 years including 2 private tours. Her extensive knowledge and warm and engaging teaching style have taken me from being a novice DSLR photographer to feeling confident that I can always get the shot I want...no more disappointment when I get home with my travel photos. On the private tours, Val covered Astro photography, long exposures, using filters and landscape composition. Her tours were very well organised and ran like clockwork. Val organised access to private areas outside of hours allowing us to capture the 'perfect shot'. She is also the perfect travel companion with her friendly, enthuiastic & always sunny manner, with some entertaining stories to throw in over dinner & a glass of wine!
