Find Out What Really Happened
Nov. 2019
This is a very informative museum to begin unraveling the truth of the devastion of the Missouri border known as "The Burnt District". This "District" was made up of the northern portion of Bates County and all of Vernon, Cass, and Jackson counties. According to historian and author,Tom Rafiner, during the Civil War "About 40,000 people left and more than 2,200 square miles of western Missouri was completely burned, including 2800 family farms, and most of the villages and towns in Bates and Cass Counties."
After the museum, the jail will take you back in time when prisoners we treated to the barest accomodations in a bleak environment. Very well preserved and a knowledgeable tour guide made this a memorable stop.

Worth the Stop
Aug. 2019
This place will about an hour of time to see everything. It is well worth the stop in Nevada, MO. Located at 212 W Walnut street. Drive around on the side to see the jail area.

There is a lot of history and artifacts in the Museum for a small community. The jail is very interesting, also. Definitely worth the visit.

Amazing Museum for Such a Small Town
May 2019 • Family
The Bushwacker Museum is in the basement of the town library. When you approach the entrance, you think this must be a rinky-dink kind of tiny museum, but it really, really good! We spend 2 hours there an could've stayed longer. The collection and curation are great, and the museum is larger than it looks. The staff was very nice and helpful, but not intrusive in any way. Only $5 admission fee. I highly recommend this museum.

VERY INFORMATIVE
Aug. 2018 • Couples
If you are interested in Civil war History, this is a great place to learn about the Mid-west and role played by the people of Missouri during that time. The jail was very interesting to see.

Well Worth the Time and $5.00
Aug. 2018 • Friends
Beneath the town library is a small yet very informative museum dedicated to the local events during the war era. Having grown up in this area one would think these facts would have been taught in school but alas I had no idea.....
The $5.00 covers the museum and the jail. Such a modest price for such the wealth of knowledge.
Our tour guide was new to the job and still learning many details of the museum. Her knowledge of the jail was much much better. But we all have to start somewhere...

Nice little museum
Apr. 2018 • Couples
You wouldn't expect such a nice museum for the size. The curator is a young man, quite knowledgeable in the history of the area and the Bushwhackers. It is in the basement but there is an elevator.

Outstanding Collection
Apr. 2017 • Couples
Ok, it is relatively small and except for a few fossils it covers the 1800s forward as you might expect. What I didn't expect was the quality of the collection.

If you are anywhere near Nevada, you should stop and tour the museum. It will be well worth an hour or so of your time.
