Just 2 miles off main highway, close to downtown.

Well maintained. Just drove be on an early Sunday morning. Not far out of the way. Just 2 miles off main highway.

Harry S. Truman was one of the most influential people of the twentieth century. His decision to use nuclear weapons ended WWII and saved thousands of American soldiers lives. This is the house that he was born in and features many items belonging to him and his family.

Thoroughly enjoyed this historical site and home. Worth the out of the way drive to a town that has nothing else to do. Our tour guide was great and was very knowledgeable. Interesting history.

The Truman Birthplace is small. You can easily tour it in less than an hour. The guides are a wealth of information. There is plenty of parking. When my family and I visit, we also like to walk around the square in Lamar.

This home is in a small town. I would not make a trip just to see it but if you are anywhere near I would add it on. We started at the Visitors Center where the staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. The home is across the street and had been nicely restored. The tour guide had many good stories... More

It's worth the time to stop in the small town of Lamar to see the Harry S Truman birthplace. The house, built in 1880, is restored to appear as it might have been when Truman lived there. A knowledgable guide gave us a very thorough and informative tour in a short period of time. The site is closed on Mondays... More

This is a quick stop but since you are in the area of Prairie State Park it makes for a nice second visit.

I planned to see this and was not disappointed. The tour is short but informative (the house isn't that big) and I was glad to find they were open. Check opening times as they aren't open every day. There is a small gift shop and two memorials to see as well.

Stopped at Lamar as it was halfway to my destination and was pleasantly surprised to see this treasure here. Very close to motel, very sweet guide, and very interesting site. Very well mantained tribute.
