The Coterie Theatre, named "One of the Five Best Theaters for Young Audiences" in the U.S. by TIME magazine, provides unique theatre experiences for families and young audiences. The company is nationally recognized for its one-of-a-kind programming that features a year-round season of live plays and musicals on the company's mainstage, for which individual, group, and season tickets are available. The Coterie offers acting and theatre classes year-round for PreK-12th grades at multiple locations around Kansas City, including an extensive summer program of classes and performance camps. The company also has several community outreach programs that include in-school curriculum-based workshops, theatre productions that tour to schools and community venues, a free award-winning touring presentation that educates teens about STD prevention, and a teen playwriting program that gives voice to emerging young writers. Black box theatre in the middle of Crown Center. We saw Nine Who Dared, which is a play about school desegregation in the 1950's. Very well presented and thought provoking. Wonderful performances with an opportunity for audience participation, but no one is drawn into the discussion unless they volunteer. Check it out!

Madagascar the Musical is cute, funny, and interactive. Couples, families, and groups were all enticed into moving and clapping. Most Coterie productions are aimed at young children, but Madagascar is lively family entertainment for about the same price as a movie. Crown Center garage parking is usually free with purchase, so enjoy the easy access. Choose to spend time here,... More

This performance was excellent! The cast was engaging, interactive and so talented! The pacing was perfect and the opportunities throughout the production for kids to join in a bit of movement was perfect for a young audience. That being said, there was plenty for adults to enjoy - great vocals, lively dance moves and lines throughout that appealed to adult... More

I thought the Coterie Theatre mounted plays aimed only at children and for that reason never went to a production. But in February one of its productions, And Justice for Some:The Freedom Trial of Anthony Burns [1858], caught my attention and I decided to go to see it. The play about a fugitive slave who was living in Boston and... More

We just went last night and saw 'Where the Wild Things Are.' This was our first time and I was surprised at how small the theater was. In actuality, it was the perfect size, because it made the performance more intimate. This show (maybe others too) was very interactive for the kids and the adults. It was great, because it... More

I never knew this place existed. We went with a group to see the Charlie Brown Christmas and it was very well done. The seats were just a little tight for adults by for kids they would be plenty big, and the show itself was great.

We have spotlight tickets to the Coterie and love seeing the musical productions. This was a little different his time. We Enjoyed the Coterie's production of The Miracle Worker. The cast was multi-ethnic. The performance was shadow interpreted and included a 'visual description ' script. I love that our cow town has experiences like this for our children.

We have been to several shows at the Coterie the last couple of years. The really cool part is that the kids get to actually sit ON the stage. Awesome. The two best shows we saw were "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" and the currently running "A Year With Frog and Toad" -- which was the best. show. ever!! We liked... More
