A treasure of the KC arts scene!

This is the best Shakespeare I've ever seen anywhere. We have been for 5 shows running and it never disappoints. The productions are top notch with actors who bring the stories to life in a clear, understandable way. Clever stagings and interpretations and completely professional. There is always something to look at, the sets are lovely and, this year, the... More

The show is always quality, the seating is great with lots of good views no matter where you sit, and the food is fun and delicious. Plus-- it's free, and you can even bring your own food, drinks, and alcohol. Get there early for a good parking spot and to place your blanket or chairs in the front free rows.... More

Even people who believe they would never be interested in Shakespeare will have a great time. No matter if the production is a comedy or tragedy, there will be something that ropes you in to the story. And even if you have never experienced the old English vocabulary, you begin to catch on in a matter of minutes. Arrive early... More

The show (King Lear) was a good production. The set was relatively elaborate for an outside (park) production, with great effects & sound. The actors were good - lots of feeling and emotion and they knew what they were doing. There were several choices of beer & soft drinks available, but only one choice of red or white wine. Roasted... I had never been to the festival before, but found it wonderful. There was pre-show entertainment, a lecture on the play and multiple food vendors. You can bring a blanket or lawn chairs, a picnic dinner, drinks, etc. It's a casual, enjoyable evening, with great acting, costumes and sets. They do not charge, but request donations to cover their costs.... More

If you are fortunate enough to be in KC in June or early July the Shakespeare Festival is fun and usually very good, feels authentic, great costumes and acting. Take a lawn chair, or blanket, your own cooler or buy it there. It is free, but donations are requested.

We have been going for many many years and always enjoy the show. A class act. Bring your own chairs and / or blankets or you can pay for a reserved seat (just a plastic chair) and bring a picnic dinner for a wonderful night under the stars. Honestly one of my favorite date options as well.

This year the Festival featured two shows. The most amazing thing about these shows is how they are done in the middle of a park in Kansas City. The actors perform in both shows as different characters. The stage rotates and was used for both shows as well. It makes a wonderful experience every summer.

We whole heartedly recommend this open-air theatrical experience. We have attended several of the events in this festival over the years. Each one was a special experience. We are not well versed in Shakeapearian literature but we understand the exciting plays presented, learn something each time, and intend to go back.

Outdoor summertime festival draws excellant professional talent and appreciative audiences. Cost is free (or you can donate). BYO blankets, picnics, chairs and any other creature comforts you want (a few seats can be reserved for a small fee) and arrive early for a good location. High-quality sets and costumes enhance the top-notch talent. Actors have mics so sound is good... More
