This is one of several areas of KC that thy have been trying to revitalize but other than a small section of 18th Street, it still needs a lot of work. Many of the redone storefront are empty and boarded up buildings are mixed in with subsidized housing. The area around the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum and the American Jazz... More

I visited the 18th and Vine District primarily to see the Negro League Baseball Museum. I had heard former Kansas City Monarchs baseball player Buck O'Neil describe it as an epicenter for black culture and entertainment. There are some redeveloped buildings including the museums, GEM theater and the YMCA. It appears there is still further opportunity in terms of renovating... More

I was in the District for a visit to the Gem Theatre for a Jazz Festival competition for middle, high school, and college jazz bands. The District is clean, welcoming, and full of history. There are some empty store-fronts just waiting for the right businesses. There is a past here, and there is a future here too!

Flowing with history. Jazz Museum, Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, Castle Police Office, Arthur's Bryant's BBQ just down the street. This is a nice place for a stroll down memory lane...

This is a must see when in Kansas City! besides eating BBQ this is a very historical and wonderful place to cruise and sight see. I used to visit Barker Temple COGIC when it was in it's hay day and sneak around the corner to the stores for candy during services. Gotta go by the GEM theater and catch a... More

We were in the 18th and Vine area when we went to see the Jazz Museum and Negro Baseball Museum. There are a few shops and restaurants in the area. Nothing big enough to make it worth a separate visit though.

What a great area... learn about the history of Kansas City Blues (Going to Kansas City), and the culture of this area. Super friendly people, and amazing vibe.

Stopped and parked at this locale. Purchased several items from street vendors. Weather was in our favor and it was a good and inexpensive visit.
