Kansas City is known for many things: The Royals, BBQ, and, of course, jazz. One evening, a friend and I stumbled across this place. Entering this place was like entering a place from the past. Regardless of what you dressed like or looked like, everyone was welcome. There were couples on first dates, couples celebrating anniversaries, and even solo visitors.... More

We had a few beers here and listened to the Paul Shinn trio, which played a mix of standards, and many original songs. Paul Shinn, the pianist, is headed for New York City and bigger things. But the friendliness of the room and the waitstaff was fantastic. The back wall is lined with interesting photos of jazz greats through the... More

Was able to see Ida McBeth (even though she was under the weather) preform in this small wonderful setting. Just wished I lived here instead of California so I could see great jazz in a intimate setting at crazy low prices ($15 bucks, no cover)... it was awesome!

A very comfortable place to hear good jazz in a jazz-centric city. No food, but interesting beers on tap (some local) or bottled, also wine and mixed drinks. Good acoustics and sight lines, fascinating memorabilia on the walls and tables (the club is part of the American Jazz Museum) and an audience that respects the music and the performers. Well... You go early and pick out a table among tables not reserved (although supposedly there are not reservations allowed per their web page),and suddenly they just bring more people to your table, no questions asked. Unconfortable situation to you and the new comers.

Recently we went out on a Friday night at 5:00 p.m. and decided to hear some music before going to dinner. We were pleasantly surprised that there was no cover charge at the Blue Room and the drink charge was minimal. So we sat down and began to hear some of the best live music I have ever heard..for FREE!!... More

We were definitely not disappointed with this excellent surprise. I will admit we arrived at a different location but were directed to the Blue room by some locals. This is definitely an excellent place to listen to some great tunes. Definitely a must if you are in the area. We were here for one of their jam sessions and it... More

Decided spur of the moment to try to Blue Room after driving in and checking onto our hotel. We had two 14 yr olds with us and debated about how it would be for them at 9:00 on a Thursday night. We had nothing to worry about as there was such a great mix of people there. After finding out... More

This is the finest jazz venue anywhere. Where else can you here great music, be entertained by students who drop in to jam and really experience the vibe that comes from the synergy created by musicians and an audience that is there to appreciate them. The audience is always a mix of old/young/black/white dressed to the nines or just in... More
