About
Our cellar door is located on the outskirts of the historic Richmond township in the heart of the Coal River Valley. Nestled between Belmont, the Georgian convict-built, heritage-listed home, and our vines you will find our tasting room in The Coach House. Wine tastings are available seven days a week from 10 am – 4.30 pm. Our tastings will be limited to 30-minute sessions to ensure that physical contact between staff and visitors is limited. Cheese and charcuterie boards are available daily, with wood-fired pizza available from Thursday to Sunday. From December 26th to January 16th, our wood-fired oven will be cooking daily between 12 pm and 3 pm. Bookings are essential. With borders now open to international and domestic visitors, we warmly look forward to welcoming you to our historic Cellar Door and Butcher’s Hill vineyard. We’ve changed the way we operate to ensure we take every possible preventative measure to ensure that guests and staff can be protected from the potential tr

We really looked forward to this and it delivered in every way. The tasting was informative and done in the old inn which was full of history. We then went to our table, bookings highly recommended, where we had idyllic views over the countryside and a delicious pizza lunch. The duck pizza in particular was a taste sensation.

This came highly recommended by locals and was one of the best wineries discovered on our two week Tassie trip. The tasting was great with such a friendly server who was very knowledgeable without being pretentious. It was just such a lovely genuine experience. We left with two bottles of the Chardonnay

Stopped in for a wine tasting after finding many nearby vineyards closed. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable, sharing the history of the site as well as information about the wines. Very welcoming for a solo traveller too

We had a great tasting at Pooley during our recent trip to Tassie. We initially got there about 2pm and the place was really busy being a Sunday and the sun was out ☀️ We were told the wait for a tasting would be 30 minutes or maybe a little more. Not their fault, we hadn’t booked and it’s obviously popular and they were just complying with COVID restrictions. As such, we went elsewhere and booked for 3.30. So glad we did, the place was much quieter and we were able to enjoy a more personalized and tailored experience. The staff we dealt with were extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the wines. I’m pretty sure the fellows name was Ben that looked after us for much of our time (apologies if I got this wrong mate, I should have made a note at the time🙏😁) We tasted an extensive number of wines and were very impressed across the board. The Chardonnay’s and Pinot’s were outstanding and it was a great example of how the terroir influences the wine, with grapes sourced from their Cooinda Vale and Butchers Hill vineyards. The Cooinda Vale Rose and Pooley Riesling were also highlights and are perfectly at home in a Queensland summer. The Riesling was a perfect match with freshly shucked Bruny Island oysters too (pictured). I am now very much a Pooley fan and look forward to many more bottles in the future. Keep up the great work 🍷❤️

We had been recommended Pooley Wines by our family who live in Hobart. As former residents of Hobart we enjoy supporting small businesses. However, on this occasion we were very disappointed. We had not made a booking and were told by the male Matri D we could sit outside in the 'hot' sun. And was it hot, a 29 degree day in the scorching heat. We then viewed the menu, wishing to have a cheese platter, after lining up to order for some time, we were told it was only pizza on the order. I'm not sure why we were given a menu with platters if it was just pizza! We ordered, white wine a cider and a coke all was warm and unpleasant. The pizza arrived, it was delicious, but the size of a small side plate for $15, was way over priced. The bathroom was dirty and to only have 2, was not adequate for the number of people in attendance. I spent most of my time waiting for a vacant bathroom. Hobart gossip is it that Mr Pooley has made a lot of money from this business. Well Mr Pooley, buy some umbrellas, build new toilets, ensure your drinks are placed in a fridge, fix your menus and ensure you staff are pleasant to their customers.

Had a lovely few hours at Pooley Wines this afternoon. This morning we booked a wine tasting and were disappointed to have called too late to book lunch too but after we had finished the tasting - with Tomas who was very knowledgeable and friendly - the very helpful Bonnie managed to find us a table. We enjoyed a delicious lunch of mushroom and feta pizza followed by apple crumble pizza (my husband’s new favourite food!) expertly cooked in the wood fired pizza oven and of course some great wine. The tall, dark haired young woman who served us at the food counter was very helpful and efficient. Overall a really great experience.

Turned up at Pooley a couple of days ago with my wife and older parents … we had enjoyed a lovely day until we got there … our driver dropped us off at the cellar door where we were then refused entry as we did not have a booking … never heard of a booking just for tasting and we did want to buy some wine to take home … we do drink their wine often at hone in Sydney … never again … after pointing out to the person at the door that their website stated “no bookings required for parties of 4 or less”, even the sign at the gate suggested we could simply call on … the best he could offer us was a phone number we could ring and make a complaint … will never go back and I will tell everyone I know not to visit and being an ex Tasmanian I get asked a lot about places to visit in Tasmania… this is one to avoid … there are many other places nearby offering a better experience and great service …

Attentive customer service, with impeccable knowledge of the wines and the winery itself. I really loved the soil samples on the wall also!
