Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

As we wander the inner of Sidon's old souk, we can't stop imagining entering into “past”, a feeling of journey to ancient times. We've passed through narrow alleys with local vendors that sell various merchandise. We were stunned while strolling on those hundred years structures. Our attention was caught by a local who sell “Lebanese sweets” that upon tasted, bought some.

Following a walk on the promenade having seen the old Crusader Sea Castle a stroll through the old souk is your next stop. For starters all the people are so friendly and helpful so if there is anything in particular you want just ask. Hand made sea shell ornaments (not tacky) are a must have souvenir from the area - very cheap but some amazing sculptures to be seen - some not practical to buy! As you wander down a labyrinth of narrow passages selling everything from sofas to zaatar wa zeit, you will come across an 8th century cathedral tucked in a corner - which still in use!. The whole feel of this souk is amazing - it is not a particularly big one but very clean and friendly. Just part of the very charming town of Sidon.

An ancient sook, colourful and incredibly busy. Loved it, although you need to be careful for young kids safety (traffic)

I've been to many Souks across the middle east and it was a joy to find that the Souk in Sidon remains almost entirely used for locals rather than full of "tourist tat" (there is a small bit of it about if you want some but not too much!)

Finally electric scooters/mopeds are allowed in so watch your back and listen out for "beep beeps!"

We were visiting the crusaders castle which was just across the street. It is a nice souk filled mostly with modern Chinese made goods but it still retains it's character. Worth wandering through to find a place to get a coffee.

Our hotel arranged for an English speaking driver, (Radwan and his Toyota Avanza -$100) for our 106 mile circuit to both Tyre & Sidon UNESCO sites.
Departing Tyre at 11 AM, we arrived at Sidon port's 13th C Sea Castle at 11:30 AM. We walked into the old souk easily finding the 17th C Kahn El Franj Caravansary in an unimproved state of wooden galleries around its courtyard. Climbing up through arched stone galleries, we struggled to find the 13th C St. Louis Crusader Castle ruins at the souk high point. From here we strolled down along the souks east side to the active Soap Museum, then farther to the 1721 Debbane Palace.
After joining our driver at one of the street cafes, we drove 5 km north to the 7th C BC Eshmun Temple before returning to Beirut arriving at our hotel at 2 PM.

I enjoyed this part of the city least. On one site it caters a typical arabic market. On the other it is stressful, noisy, underorganized and unpleasant.

But with nice shops selling delicious sweets, and fruit and vegetables. People are friendly, though not so used to tourists there.

Arrived in a great sunshine morning and the place was in a peace scene, most restaurant and cafe are just opened and we hired a boat and went off to a nearby island tour which is extremely cheap for the whole boat, 15 minutes ride at cost $20 and enjoy the view of Sidon, the ancient castle and the little island surrounded by the clear water great for the swimmers and fishermen.
After the sailing, next miss the famous Sidon market with fresh supply each day in much Lower prices than the capital city : Beirut, oh and don’t forget to check on the souvenirs stores, the most famous Falafel and the Arabic baklava, also don’t forget to visit the famous olive soap
Museum which is located inside the traditional market as well.
In the end we had seafood lunch in the restaurant right on the corniche, had the fresh seafood and tasty Lebanese appetizers all at the most affordable prices,
It’s definitely a must visit place when you visit lebanon.
