Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

The whole area of the Gorges du Verdon is beautiful. From the lavender fields atop the plateau to the access points to the lakes, it is a region of rugged and natural beauty. The narrow chasms of the Gorge itself are difficult to access and experience. And due to the heat, we were not anxious to hike. Thanks to the service rep in Moustiers, we took a loop drive with many viewpoints to be able to capture this dramatic landscape. Make sure to bring your picnic lunch!

This is one of the most beautiful places in the world. The Gorges du Verdon is a fabulous day out as you can hire a kayak, an electric boat or a pedalo. You can swim in the crystal clear water from your pedalo and it is not particularly expensive to hire one. The place is well used by French people and there weren't many foreign (not French) accents being spoken. All the people who hire the boats etc. speak very good English. I would go there again as it was so picturesque. The drive to the Gorges is very challenging as the roads are windy and narrow but well worth it once you get there. The car park is free and there were a lot of camper vans and mobile homes parked there.
The toilets at the Gorges du Verdon were a little basic to say the least but they were there. Try not to use them after a gang of girls who got off a coach!

The road from south of Moustiers-Sainte-Marie to Castellan alongside the Verdon Gorge was spectacular. Must have stopped a dozen times to capture photos of cliffs and gorges along highway D952. My wife laughed at the numerous yellow and white highway markers that mark a road where there are less than a hand-fill of turn-offs. They are hardly necessary.
The distance between Moustiers Sainte-Marie and Castellane is marked as 45 kilometres. The gorge is about 2,300 feet deep. With all the twists and turns and stops it took us over two and half hours to cover it. It was wonderful and well worth the extra time. Our weather wasn’t great but we both highly recommend including this driving route on a tour of Provence

We decided to travel up from the French Riviera into Provence south of France and came upon the National park Verdon with the Grand Canyon listed as a tourist drive. We then spent the next hour winding our way around the most amazing scenery with mountains on one side dropping down to the river on the other. We took the D952 from Castellane and highly recommend it if you have a the time to explore this wonderful part of France. We had currently done the Grand Corniche which is a road in the mountains overlooking Monaco but feel this one is much better.

We drove only half of the circuit, partly because our minds could simply not take any more.
We came in via Trigance, and drove the rive gauche side, and we took time out to stop and look at the view of Colouir Samson.
There's a side road, which winds down almost to the btotom of the Gorge, but not quite. You find a park and walk down to the river, then up some steep steps and through a tunnel.
Do it, it's amazing, and great exercise!
Then we drove on, and after amazing sight upon amazing sight we said we weren't going to stop any more, but we had to. And finally when you round a corner and see the lake so far below, you just have to stop once more and stare.
Where the gorge meets the lake, the cliffs are sheer on both sides, and far far below you see people in boats coming into the gorge from the lake.
Wow.
Do it, from either side. It's extraordinary.
And that's from a Kiwi, from the land of Lord of the Rings.

I can’t think of enough superlatives. The lake is stunning, the gorge is awe inspiring, hiking here is worth it to get off the beaten track. In September the tourists weren’t too much. The light here is stunning. I knew the Verdon Gorge was lovely but I had no idea how huge and stunningly beautiful it would be. Pictures simply don’t do it justice - just put your camera down and soak it in.

A great site, paddleboard through it and swimming in the gorge is tempting and great, and they are, but is the route D952 form Moustier Sainte Marie to Castellan, Trigance and Aiguines that makes you realise how magnificent this nature wonder is. Winding roads, steep ridges, trees and the beautiful colour of Verdon and Lac de Sainte Croix are impressive. Though the distance is not so big, it takes a whole day though, as the road is winding and narrow, with stops fot photos, but it's worth the effort! A place to return without any doubt!

There is no doubt that the region of Verdon is one of the most spectacular in France, if not in Europe. With its deep canyons, high rocky peaks, and rivers and lakes with an almost impossible turquoise hue, it has an abundance of diverse and beautiful scenery.
Clearly, active pursuits such as hiking, canoeing etc are very popular, it’s important to stress however that simply driving around this fabulous area can bring enormous pleasure as well.
