Step on to the peaceful grounds of Confederate Memorial State Historic Site...

Step on to the peaceful grounds of Confederate Memorial State Historic Site and experience where the last voices of the “Lost Cause” lingered. The site was once home to the Confederate Soldiers Home of Missouri, which provided comfort and refuge to 1,600 Civil War veterans and their families for nearly 60 years. Today, visitors can visit the restored chapel and the Confederate cemetery, as well as three other historic buildings. Visitors will learn about the Confederate Home and the role it played in post-Civil War Missouri. The site’s 135 acres include numerous lakes to fish in as well as walking trails and places to picnic.

Visiting Confederate Memorial in fall was a perfect time to see the leaves turn brilliant colors near the pergola at the park's entrance and learn about the history of the memorial. Unfortunately, the smell around the entire park was horrible, like manure and burning leaves, and our time spent outside the car was extremely limited. There might be a more... More

I knew it existed so I went all the way through Higginsville to locate it. This is a special place, not an attraction, but a response and remembrance to the participants of the war.

Don't be mislead by the name, as this is not a battlefield or battle site, but a Confederate veteran's home that took care of aging Civil War veterans. Most is just sites now. The grounds are beautiful for a peaceful walk or picnic, or to even fish in the numerous ponds. Very well done with small streams connecting each pond.... More

Tour of the Anderson house was interesting. Well worth the $5. I would recommend watching the video first before doing the tour to get a little more background of the events.

this was an interesting place to visit. the gravesite of William Quantrill of the Civil War is located in the Veteran's Home Cemetery. Or at least part of his body is there! The Missouri Veterans Cemetery is nearby. Beautifully kept grounds honoring our service men and women. Generations Café is a must for great food!

We visited because my wife saw the yellow and black sign for the town with the finger pointing the way and was interested. We learned of the park and the former Confederate solider's home that was later torn down. We visited the Confederate Cemetery and while there a site worker came over to greet us. He opened the chapel for... More

This park has a lot of history there. It is very well maintained and is peaceful. The chapel is cute. It is worth the stop if you are in the area. There is a playground for children as well.

Beautiful setting with a long history. The chapel is one of only 3 still remaining and the cemetery has a very unique monument on display. Definitely worth the stop.
