Cool waters and abundant wildlife make Big Lake State Park a place to get away in northwest Missouri. Visitors can canoe and jet ski on the state's largest oxbow lake that adjoins the park or watch for smooth soft-shelled turtles lazing away the day in the park's marsh. Big Lake is a wetland that migrating birds use as a resting stop, affording bird watchers an unparalleled opportunity to see yellow-headed blackbirds, blue herons, soras and rails. Take advantage of the camping and lodging opportunities while you are there.

Spent 3 days in the premium cabins on the lake. It was super quiet and relaxing. I got to watch the sunset from my porch. The lake is a state park and a village so one side is campgrounds and the other side has lake homes. The lake was large and had a huge marsh. You could rent canoes for... More

This state park has been destroyed by flooding 2 or 3 times in the last few years, but they rebuild it and it seems to improve a bit each time. Its a flat park area, with good RV sites (I didnt see water connections, just electrical) with big trees for shade and lots of picnic areas. There is a swimming... More

This place has been flooded so many times that the most attractive thing about the place is that it shows the "Never say Die" spirit of Americans. It is a beautiful place with a great Restaurant, when it is cleaned up and open. Just call ahead and pray that it hasn't rained in the last year.
