Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Day 8 of our Australia trip began to explore suburb of the Central Coast region. Mooney Mooney located hardly 50 kms away from Sydney town at the end of a peninsula.Nestled on the shores of the Hawkesbury River, with views across to Brooklyn, you'll find the tranquil setting of Mooney Mooney
We reached early morning and truly this place was blissful, calm & serene. Locals told us one can walk down to natural trail into the Brisbane Water National Park and enjoy the nature. We stayed by the river for almost an hour and more and really enjoyed the view.
With hardly any tourists around this was a perfect place to explore Australia and can be added to travel list

Took a train from Central to Hawkesbury River in about 60 mins- nice train ride to escape the city. Easy day trip. Very good value on the train with Opal card. Nice setting by the river.

Did a day trip from mooney mooney bridge boat ramp. Clearly insufficient parking and a lack of amenties at the ramp. two toilets is not enough and not enough parking. There was not a boat wash down point either - like many other ramps have.
Once out on the water it was lovely with many isolated communites dotted along the foreshow. Great for water skiing fishing and general sight seeing.
Couldnt find anywhere to get a coffee or lunch and the marina at Brooklyn was not visitor friendly.

Just a short hike will get you to this majestic spot with fantastic views.
No crowds so the views are for you to enjoy in solitude.
You will be wowed.

Sail, swim, fish, dine, take the Riverboat Postman and enjoy a wonderful historical commentary or just laze in the sun.
Hire a houseboat, a fishing boat, a jet ski, or just walk it's all there.
Access via boat ramps at Mooney Mooney and Brooklyn to launch your pleasure craft.
Arrive by train at Hawkesbury River Station, but be aware there is no lift at this station.

The Hawkesbury River is an awesome River in the Sydney area about 120 km (75 mi) long with a catchment area of around 21,000 km. One of the best ways to enjoy this beautiful part of the world is on a houseboat.
We have done it several times over the past two years with different people and each time its a winner. I suggest a 2 night 3 day package, and I strongly recommend getting the biggest boat your budget can afford.
There are 2-3 great companies to choose from either at Wisemans Ferry, or from Woy Woy.
It is perfect for families, friends, teens, basically anyone.

This was always my favourite sector when driving to the Central Coast; the freeway was always just a chore but the river here was always good for a break and a beautiful place to stop and relax.
I now see it from the air when flying into Sydney and it still retains its beauty - such a magnificent sight from above, a beautiful part of Sydney and environs.

A great spot to take a break on your way North out of Sydney is Mooney Mooney Boat Ramp and Deerubbun Reserve. The location offers views of the Hawkesbury River and you can watch people putting in and taking out their boats (somewhat comical at times). Toilets are located here.

Gorgeous river views. The area is overflowing (pardon the pun) with beautiful serene vistas. There are caravan parks dotted along the banks and many opportunities for bushwalking, camping, water skiing and relaxing. We spent a couple of days in the Lower Portland area and came back to Sydney rejuvenated after our relaxed, stress-free stay.

I enjoyed a peaceful visit to Hawkesbury River. The steep gorge country and rocky outcrops highlight the beauty of the water. This is a perfect spot to go picnicking, camping or boating. Highly recommended.

Hi, I was interested in the Sunday cruise on the Hawkesbury. Visiting from Adelaide on Feb 20 & 21st with dear friends from overseas. Are there any reviews of the Sunday cruise. I read somewhere there was a cruise with morning tea & lunch. Staying in Darling Harbour, best way to reach starting point? Thanks, Linda
Written 23 January 2016
Hi, the best way to reach the start of the cruise would be to go to Brooklyn. You would need a hire car to get there as I don't believe there are any regular public transport options to this area.
I cannot vouch for the quality of the cruise as we did the cruising in our own boat. Hope this helps.
