We traveled to Oxford after Christmas only to discover Rowan Oak was closed for the holidays. It is still worth a walk from downtown. We were told there is a trail head for a path that leads from the property to Ole Miss. Unfortunately, we could not find it. Looking forward to returning one day to visit the house.

This house is close to downtown Oxford and is worth the short drive. My wife and I took a self-guided tour and learned some interesting things about the author. It takes about an hour to tour the house.

We loved sitting in the rocking chairs in the garden and walking the trails around the house. Beautiful and well-maintained home.

Rowan Oak was built before the Civil War and is a Greek Revival plantation house. The author William Faulkner bought it long after and made it his family home. The tour is five dollars and is self guided. Fans of the stories will appreciate this, but the house and grounds are lovely for all. Grounds include hiking trails and access... More

It is worth touring through this house, which has been very carefully preserved. You see it as it was when Faulkner was alive, and learn details of his life from the artifacts.

The grounds and house were very well kept and the staff at the home was very helpful and friendly. We had questions and they answered them with lots of knowledge. If you are a fan of Faulkner, you will love his home.

If you love Faulkner, this is a must-see. The grounds are interesting, as well as the house, though a lot of it is closed off. Just a small bit of history, but a big deal to Faulkner nerds!

Rowan Oak is very well preserved and provides a very interesting look into Faulkner's life. The grounds are well kept and the staff is polite. Would not recommend small children as this would probably go over their heads.

A quiet reverent place...the tour is awesome. If you've never read Faulkner...shame on you! Try one of his short stories first....baby steps.

it helps to understand the man by visiting his home. It is interesting to see how he worked (timelines of his last novel on the walls of his work room) and "played" (more than one bottle of wine/whiskey on display).
