The Friendship Oak tree is located on the front lawn of the Southern Miss Gulf Park campus in Long Beach, Mississippi. In the last decade, the historic Friendship Oak survived Hurricane Katrina, another in a long string of hurricanes that have challenged yet never defeated the 500+ year old live oak tree. A plaque has this inscription: "I am called... More

I live just over the tracks from the university, but it's always been a beautiful location. When I was a little girl, my mother worked on campus and I always thought that the buildings were great. A few of the original classrooms or dorms still stand giving it an added advantage over other campuses. It's also located across from the... More

I got my BS degree here. It caters to adults. It has a great criminal justice program...If you are a returning adult student, go here for your education needs. The classes are small, and the professors are professionals and do this on the side. They bring more than book knowledge to the class environment.

This tree has seen so much in history that I had to go see it out of respect. It vastly covers a area with long branches.

School is located on the campus of the former Gulf Park College. It is now a four year school and offers a nice variety of degree programs. Overall skilled staff and instructors.

Definitely worth a short break from the beach to stand in the Awesomeness of this great tree. And to take a picture with your friends/loved ones. I remember it from years ago when we visited there as a kid. Just so amazing how this tree has survived through all the storms.

Totally worth your time!!! Just off the beach road. Trunk is more than 6ft wide. Branches are like trees themselves!

After being virtually destroyed by Hurricane Katrina the Gulf Coast Campus is starting to really bounce back. A lot of the buildings have been repaired or rebuilt and the grounds are starting to retake the natural grand feel. So much of the city of Long Beach is still in ruins that it remains a work in progress.
