Wander around this historic neighborhood that runs from Amite Street across to Fortification Street and Mill Street to Lamar Street, to see old homes, shops and other buildings, many of which were built by former slaves whose descendants still live and work in the area.

I really enjoyed this area. I stopped in some shops and learned even more about the area. The man in the shoe repair shop is a fountain of information, his shop has been there since the 1930s.

There are jewels on Farish street but the execution of the district's plan has been non existent. It reminds me of the neighborhoods up in the New England states. It takes $100.00 to get $10.00 worth of work done.

I am not sure why this is listed as places to see. It is in a dangerous part of town and although there is a revival of the downtown buildings, there is nothing to see on this street. I work in the area and even...More
