Saw the exit for this museum (I'd already tagged it on trip advisor) and decided to stop for lunch. Glad we did. Lunch was generous, tasty. As it turned out our original destination in Dandenong was closed due to storm damage overnight. So lucky we stopped. Had great walk around garden. Did not go inside as keen to get back... More

A magic sample of our artistic heritage. The grounds, houses and sculptures take one to a special world. The Charles Blackman exhibition will provoke much thought and reflection. A unique experience!

Found this fascinating museum which is actually three separate spaces situated in a 15 acre property in astounding pastoral surroundings a mere 55 minutes from the heart of the Melbourne CBD. The Heide Museum of Modern Art was where Sunday Reed and her husband John, who were a couple united in their love of art, and pioneers in finding and... More

I would never dare to call myself and art lover and have little interest in the (very broad) subject. I tagged along on a visit in the company of friends and thoroughly enjoyed every moment helped by the charming lady guides. The Nolan pictures and slates, together with Charles Blackman's "Schoolgirls", did open my eyes even if only a little.... More

Ideal place to visit whatever the weather as it's essentially two visits which could be done together or individually. We visited twice. On the first visit, on a sweltering hot day, we did the indoor bits - Heide 1, 2 and 3 as they call them and took advantage of the air conditioning. You pay an admission charge for these... More

We have been wanting to visit the Heide Museum for many years. It was a wonderful experience and we particularly enjoyed the Charles Blackman and Albert Tucker exhibitions. Disappointed that more funds are not dedicated to the gardens.

Always wanted to explore this Museum of Modern art. 30min drive from central Melbourne is well worth your while if you are passionate about art. This location was once the home of Melbourne couple, John and Sunday Reed, Heide Museum of Modern Art, or Heide as it is affectionately known, is a unique combination of art, architecture, social history and... OK ambience (bit crowded, rushed), but service and food a bit average for its reputation. Menu not extensive or imaginative.
