Senior couple. Visitor center is informative. Nature trail was nice. Call ahead and sign up for the Sandhill Crane tour (Wed & Sat when we were there); reservations required; sign up in advance. Tour was fantastic. Saw 14 sandhill cranes and 1 eagle. Tom, volunteer tour guide, was excellent. The best place we visited in 2 weeks in the Biloxi... More

We were passing though and had missed the tour but Doreen, the Ranger at the Center, gave us a map and marked where they had seen cranes earlier! Off we went on our own self-guided quest and, lo and behold, saw five of these elusive birds! They were just beautiful! We saw a mated pair with a baby and two... More

We took the crane tour and it was awesome. Our guide, Doreen, did a great job. We saw about 20 cranes, some deer, heron and a juvenile eagle. We also learned about the cranes and the efforts to increase the number of breeding pairs. The flora is interesting too. It's a wet pine savanna and is rather unique.

We visited a nice nature center at the Mississippi Sandhill Crane National wildlife Refuge. Doreen was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. By saving the crane, one of the most endangered species, the wet savanna habitat has to be saved, affecting many plants and other animals. We took an easy nature hike and saw many plants we had just learned about in... More

We were on a road trip through many states and this was a stop my son specifically requested. It was very easy to find. We were greeted by a nice lady we provided us with plenty of information and a video about the Sandhill cranes. She also provided us with a very detailed map on where we might be able... More

Visited the Visitor Center on a hot day in July. It is an easy access off interstate 10 & well worth the drive. Visitor Center is the best! Great displays accompanied by an interesting & informative video. Appropriate for all ages. Makes one appreciate the effort that's being made to protect these birds. Gift store stocked with interesting books, postcard,... More

I spent about three hours at the Mississippi Sandhill Crane National Wildlife Refuge enjoying the trails and the environment. The hikes were all about 45 minutes, but it was very hot and humid, with a heat index over 103, so please remember to take water with you so you can really enjoy everything the refuge has to offer. The visitor's... More

This is a free, family friendly attraction that is great for everyone. This refuge is right off Interstate 10. It has great exhibits and a well marked path that is easily accessible to everyone. It has benches spaced out so that you can sit and take in all the beautiful plants and grasses. The staff was friendly, very knowledgeable and explained... More

Visited on the way from New Orleans to Montgomery. A really good visitor centre and some very enthusiastic volunteers with lots of information about the bird. Nice nature walk too. Unfortunately we did not see any of the birds but there are 20,000 acres to search in but that did not spoil the visit.

We got to the refuge later in the afternoon so could not do the guided tour. The people in the Visitor center were very helpful and suggested we take the shorter walk. She also pointed out other roads we could travel on to see the cranes. You could feel their passion about saving this sub specie of 133 birds. Being... More
