We came here for my Father's birthday weekend and stayed in campsite 6. It was a gorgeous and serene view from our camper to the Tamarac river that flows behind the campground. We even went fishing on a motorboat. We didn't catch anything to brag about. Two baby northern and a sheephead. Next time we visit we will bring the... More

Bogs are awesome environments, and this one is no exception. Turned around and drove back after I saw the sign. (Don't forget to get your sticker at the nice visitor center). The interpretive signs are very well done and educational. The solitude and the sound of the wind through the different parts of the bog were a treat. I look... More

We love the Big Bog board walk, especially the pitcher plants. Climbing the fire tower at the campground is a must, great views. We also rented kayaks and paddled the Tamarack River! Beautiful area!

This was kind of a strange place. We stopped on a terribly humid June day. The fire tower was right next to the visitor's center. We are trying to climb every fire tower in Minnesota, and this was by far the easiest, wide steps and safe for the kids. We are also used to only being able to look around... More

Wonderful experience! We stayed in Camper Cabin 5, the last in the row of cabins and closest to the outhouse (about 40 feet, which is really nice in the middle of the night when it is cold outside!) Super cozy interior with a propane, faux wood burning stove. Beds are clean but VERY firm. I think next time I might... More

There are 2 entrances. Go to both sites. Plastic like boardwalk. Terrific explanations about the fauna, bogs, etc. Many deerflies in parking lot & at beach. Great Visitor Center. We went up the fire tower. Great view. Swam in Upper Red Lake. Very shallow, so can go out a long way

Very pleased with our experience. Visitor's center was nice, staff very friendly. Kids loved climbing the fire tower. We really, really enjoyed the boardwalk. Saw plants we'd never seen before. Totally new experience for us. Will go back.

If you are looking for out of the way camping with little access to modern amenities then this is your place....just make sure you have a love for fishing and you have a boat. There isn't much else to do here except drive to the bog boardwalk a few miles north of the park. Make sure to bring everything with... More
