As you walk down the road the view of the Abbeys setting with green hills in the background is just what you imagine Tuscany to be like. Did not actually get a chance to go in the Abbey as Sunday Service was in full swing...More

Set in a valley below the town of Castelnuovo dell'Abate, the abbey is clearly visible from a distance, unlike many monasteries that are set in the forest. The stone used to build it is mainly travertine, but some of the facade is translucent alabaster, and...More

The is one of those places where you are thinking: “Life is beautiful”... You need a car to get the Abbey. We parked at the small parking lot, 600m away from the site... we did not mind to walk admiring stunning views of the Abbey...More

We too the audio guided and then escorted tour of the interesting abbey which dates back 1000 years to the time of the crusades. Interesting and informative and provides perspective on the region.

A few miles away from Montalcino downtown is Abbazia di Sant'Antimo (15-30 min drive). As of Summer 2018 we were told they don't do anymore the Gregorian chant performances. Still worth the detour if you have an hour to spare.

Must visit - when in the Val DOrcia part of Tuscany. Beautiful and atmospheric- great for a half day picnic. You need a car to get here.

I'm afraid that after the monastery at Monte Oliveto (fabulous, near Buonconvento) this was a bit of a let down. Best bit was the bus back to Montalcino: no ticket or pricing so I gave 5 euros for two and everyone was happy. We wished...More

Definitely worth the stop. The abbey is ancient and serene. We enjoyed hearing the taped Gregorian Chants. Pack a picnic lunch and dine on the lawn overlooking the quintessential Tuscan landscape!

The Abbey takes a little effort to find as the last part of the journey is not signposted. We spotted it from the road and finally saw the car park. Worth the effort though. The Abbey is simple, peaceful, and a haven from the heat...More

The landscape is stunning. Worth the trip for the picture postcard moment. A nice piece of history also associated with the place.

Hello, the abbey should be open daily 10:30-12:30 and then again 2:30-6:30 pm But the chants are not live anymore ( but recorded) since it was a small group of monks who returned to their order in France. Last I had heard... More
