Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Went back to the Gnome in St. Paul. after a while. The place did not change much despite a new ownership. The service was good and some of the dishes were OK. The amount of food is right. The Pappardelle with chicken and porcini was good. The appetizer, the Poutine, a blend of cheese curds and wedge potatoes was very nice with a special Raclette sauce. The pear, fig and cheese sandwich was not there. No filling and no cheeses. The bread too thick. The Carved Beef was to dry and hard. The bread to thick also. The sauce was fine. Deserts: Crème Caramel or Flan. The whole dessert was tasty. The Crème Caramel needed more sugar and eggs.
The Cobbler, Peach, was tasty but the dough was soggy and completely undone.

Poor showing, Gnome. Came back to Saint Paul after a few years and tried it out. Three fails that are simple to fix with a little attention: 1) server should say hello and smile when a customer opens with that=poor service; 2) dont serve a platter with a sandwich and eight fries ("potato wedges") where there is a very side band of empty white plate all around the little pile of food=portion control; 3) chicken on fried chicken sandwich should not be mostly breading and fat/grizzle=food quality.

Title sums it up... Came here as a family to enjoy some clutch beers and burgers. It was nice how the burgers were not greasy with a proper size portion of fries. The true treat here is the beer selection along with many choices I wanted from my beer app. I love coming here a few times a month.

Great service sitting at the bar despite it being overly busy. Had a pint and part of the massive soft pretzel served with beer cheese sauce while waiting for a friend - shared the other half :) Caught both on happy hour which was an incredible deal - $4.50 for a pint and $4 for a massive pretzel with cheese.
Once our group arrived, we were moved into the dining area. Service was friendly, food was delicious. Our entire table ordered the duck burger (one was a repeat offender). All were pleased with the flavor, texture and size of the burger. Highly recommend!
If you want a mix-up from the traditional bar menu, this is your place. Prices reasonable, happy hour specials great.

We came in for dinner based on lots of reviews online and they were not wrong. Awesome beer list, great food, great service...you can't ask for more! The short rib entree was delicious! I would recommend a reservation, as the bar area fills up quickly and there isn't a lot of room to wait for a table. We will definitely be back here next time we visit the twin cities!

We had a good lunch in the dining room. We wanted to talk a bit and the dining room is much quieter than the bar area.
The server was very accommodating of special requests, including one of our group who wanted shrimp and no salad. My chicken wild rice soup was very good and more of a stew with big chunks of chicken. I also recommend the rustic bread basket. The bread & crackers on the basket were excellent.
Very good Happy Gnome!

What an excellent place. A lot of craft brews to drink a great menu featuring a duck burger that is to die for. Visited here with friends for lunch and was disappointed that we went. The staff are great, the atmosphere is excellent.

I attended an event here fall. The décor is cool and funky and I loved it. The place is much bigger than it looks from the outside. The beer list is endless and the drinks were good if slightly overpriced.
The food is great. The dry rub wings were excellent and the sauces available were great. The artichoke dip is worth getting fat for and the chicken skewers were deliciously prepared. I liked the really chewy bread. I don't mind working for it...
The service was sloooowwww. I tipped a few dollars for each drink and at least one for each glass of water and was still treated as though someone were doing me a huge favor.
The parking lot is small and I had to park a few blocks away and walk what felt like a long way in my sexy-as-can-be high heels.
I looked great doing it though, so there's that.

Stopped here for lunch on way to airport - enjoyed walking the neighborhood a bit with the surrounding shops. The menu selection was interesting and the curry soup, tacos and salad were so delicious! The restaurant space and decor was comfortable and inviting with outdoor seating which was nice in the summer. Our server was friendly and very helpful.

We were visiting the area and were taken to the Happy Gnome by local friends who had not been there but had heard good things about the food. We had a reservation mix-up and were seated in a booth in the noisy bar section. Our server came, put down the menus without a word of greeting and walked away. A different person took our drink orders with the same lack of enthusiasm. We ordered our food, which arrived in good time. The food was hot and flavourful-no complaints. I resented the 20% tip that was left because I believe tips are for excellent service, something we did not receive.
