The variety of home styles and gardens along Summit Avenue is really exceptional and a nice "taste" of the Midwest. You wonder about the founding families, what occasioned the wealth necessary to develop such an area, and the current lifestyles of the families that live there. During the last weekend of April, it was also lovely to view the gardens.... More

A walk down Summit Avenue, whether it be a block, two blocks, or a couple of miles, is an education on housing styles and different architecture. You wonder who had this house built, what is it like inside, and who built it, and when was it built. The Avenue offers you large trees, beautiful gardens and landscape, plus older homes... More

Summit has many beautiful older mansions on each side for several blocks. It's also a block off of Grand Avenue which has many great restaurants and shopping.

I enjoy taking a quiet walk on Summit Ave. The houses are lovely and you can have interesting people watching at the U of St Thomas.

It is always a pleasure to drive down Summit Ave and find another so many historical homes. This drive is on the national register of historic places and there seems to always be a place that stands out no matter how many times I drive down Summit. Don't miss it.

Summit Avenue is a favorite place to visit- we saw it in depth when we took a walking tour of Summit Avenue- so great to hear about the history of the area. The home owners take great pride in keeping a beautiful neighborhood. It's fun to take a drive or a walk along Summit Avenue and admire the homes- great... More

One of my favorite things to do on a summer evening in St Paul is get coffee or tea from a local shop and walk along Summit Ave. The houses are unique and intriguing, and the area is well-maintained and caters to walkers, joggers, or bicycle excursions. If you're looking for a lovely iced beverage to hold while you wander... More

I love to look at old and preserved homes; this street and surrounding blocks had some stunners! They are absolutely gigantic and positively beautiful. It was a bit cold so we drove through; I can imagine it would be best during the warmer months walking.

This street is one of the great urban streets in America. I'd recommend a guide book, or checking out a web resource, so you know who owns which homes. Fantastic for biking, too.
