Sabah should be ashamed of this park. The animals are clearly bored and penned up. Tired run down. Did not see a keeper the whole time we were there. A disgrace. Not a good advertisement for the country at all.
Do not bother with this
Very disappointing.

After reading all the negative reviews we went there with very low expectations.

We drove there with a rental car and arrived on a Tuesday afternoon around 3pm.
The park was very empty / only 4 cars on the car park. Entrance was only 20 ringit/person.

We walked through the park for 1,5 hrs without seeing a single other visitor (!). It was a great experience and like a private location.
Especially in the botanical garden section we felt really like in the borneo jungle - because nobody was there.

The animals have IMHO quite big cages (even bigger than in most German / European zoos which i have seen). And on every cage there were big signs reminding the visitors not to disturb the animals unnecessarily by knocking glass windows etc.

Only the area for the smallest bears should be a bit better and contain some shelter or hiding space for the bears.

Conclusion: much better than expected and should be supported by visiting

Advise; if you go there by grab it might be hard to get one back from there = better arrange your return upfront in order to avoid getting overcharged by local taxis

Fun zoo with amazing animals! Sunny and hot but still shades in most places. Nice trip for a couple of hours

Experience is average. But the entrance price is alright with what you get. If you have extra time, you may stop over but not a must. The worth seeing is long-nosed monkeys. Botanic garden inside is totally got nothing to see.

One of the worst "zoos" we have ever been too. Animals are kept in depressing conditions - sun bears were just pacing back and forth. Have nothing good to say about this place, avoid at all costs.

After reading all the reviews I was sceptical but I was pleasantly surprised .
It was clean and most animals seemed ok with plenty of room to move. We went in the morning and made it just in time for the animal show which was fun, some amazing smart birds and cool animals which the crowd could participate in holding and taking pics. There is a botanical garden loop walk at the end which we did but if I had known how long it was and up/down lots of steps probably wouldn’t have done it came out drenched in sweat as so humid. So unless your into botanical gardens I would give this a miss. If you watch a show I suggest 1:30-2hrs is plenty. As it’s about 25-30 min out of town like others I organized my travel beforehand. Booked a grab and the driver waited for us, charged me 20myr waiting time for almost 2hrs plus trip there and back.
Yes it’s a zoo but no different to other zoos I have been to in other parts of the world, if anything this was better in some cases as you are very close to the animals which the family appreciated.

Visited for a couple of hours, which was enough. Not a great deal to see really. But its heart is in the right place most if the animals had been brought there to stay until they could be relocated back into the wild. Not kept in the greatest of conditions. Hard to work out if the animals were indeed stressed by the conditions or just overwhelmed by the blistering heat.

Not the worst wildlife park I've seen - there are truly horrible, inhumane and exploitative places in the world. This is not one of them!

However, it does have a long way to go in terms of improving conditions for the animals in captivity. I felt that this park does attempt to do the right thing and I did not feel that it was some corporation exploiting animals in captivity.

Which why I believe we should support and encourage this park to channel more funds and focus more on improving conditions for the animals.

We visited this ‘Wildlife Park’ as we are passionate animal lovers and expected to see a well maintained environment for these captive creatures.
However we were deeply saddened to see so much neglect and inadequate conditions which were either unsuitable or downright cruel.
The poor miniature horse was undoubtedly kept in the most outrageous tiny squalid muddy rectangle that one could ever imagine. The poor little horse was visibly suffering being unable to walk anywhere and looked so sad and forlorn.
Generally there appeared a gross lack of clean drinking water or enough space to move around.
There was a solitary eagle kept in a tiny cage so disturbed that it was plucking its own feathers out!

The elephants were also displaying signs of stress and swaying their heads in a very unnatural manner living in an inadequate muddy enclosure.
The Sun Bears appeared sad and were also displaying stressed behaviour whilst also sadly kept in a bare muddy inadequate space.
The leopards enclosure was tiny:((

On a more positive note the Orang Utan were kept in a reasonably spacious enclosure and the proboscis monkeys conditions were fine, they also seemed playful and happy. The tigers enclosure also seemed to be adequate.
The otters were also in a very suitable area where they could swim freely.

The park facilities were also very poor with flooded toilets no restaurant, uneven and cracked paved areas. This place seriously needs to be inspected and improved quickly as many animals were so badly kept that even the minimum standards fall severely short.
Unless something changes drastically most of these animals are doomed.

Absolutely horrible and harrowing experience. Elephants kept in horrible conditions - mud, no fresh water etc. They clumped together and we’re just swaying in distress. There was a bird by itself, an eagle, who had pecked its feathers out (stress behaviour) kept in a cage far too small with no space to fly. There was a pony kept on a tiny piece of land - 1/5th concrete, the rest land. This poor animal would only walk on the concrete as the land is uneven, rocky and muddy. It stood in one place and didn’t move. Looking into its shes was heartbreaking. Generally, spaces for the animals are too small, the land is not well kept and staff are no where to be seen. There is very limited food available - ice cream and small snacks at most.

This was such a heartbreaking experience, I wish I never went. All I can do is share my experience in the hopes that people do not support it and it closes down.
