The Northfield Historical Society cares for the historic First National Bank building that the James-Younger Gang attempted to rob on September 7, 1876. The museum tells the story of the brave citizens who fought Jesse James and the other robbers leading to the end of the James-Younger Gang. During the weekend after Labor Day each year, a live reenactment of the bank robbery takes place on the street. Additional gallery space in the museum explores a variety of local history topics that make Northfield a unique mid-western town. **GUIDED BANK TOURS** daily tours Memorial Day - Labor Day; Saturday tours Apr-May and Sep-Nov.

Toured the bank the James/Younger gang tried to rob and found it excellent. Outstanding exhibits and history of the failed robbery. I also visited the home Jesse James was assassinated in and the home of his birth. Neither were as interesting as the bank in...More

The Historical Society perhaps specializes in books, stories, and relics from Jesse James time in Northfield. However, for any one who might want to study or learn about the town, there are books, there is a history of those who have lived in Northfield. There...More

I just happened to be passing through so I went in to see the Historical Society. On Saturday, they have a market in the square outside which was pleasent. When I went in, it looked like a typical small museum/gift shop but the 1:30 tour...More

My husband and I took a drive on a beautiful August day and decided to stop in Northfield, knowing very little about the town we walked the main street. Seeing a sign for the Historical Society Museum and not expecting much we popped in. Since...More

The Northfield Historical Society has a story that, I was told, will soon be changed. The Northfield bank robbery by the James Younger gang in 1876 is a headline grabber and made into a movie, but the part of the story I did not know...More

Great little store and museum with TONS of Northfield's history told and retold. Lots of Jesse James history here too relative to the bank robbery that he attempted. Much of the bank is exactly how it was back when it happened.

While visiting the farmers market we passed a sign mentioning Jesse James tours. The tour started minutes after entering the historical society. Our guide was sweet and dressed in an authentic costume, though her presentation was lacking enthusiasm. Even so, the story is very fun...More

Although our host admitted it too longer for him to tell the story of the robbery than it did to occur, he did a nice job of covering all the details. We almost felt like we were there. The rest of the society, in a...More
