River Highlight

Fun place to go to learn about how the river supplies energy and also how the lock and dam system works.

We happened to pass by this waterfall and dropped in to find a great narrated explanation of the old lock system and why it was so important just 50 years ago!

Came here as part of our city tour and cruise on the Mississippi. We actually experienced the dam opening and closing as out boat was lifted up

Go to see the water and dam. Close to the mill city museum. Do not go to see the lock portion as it was not used the entire time I was there. You can see a small part describing on how it works.

A short walk from the Stone Arch Bridge. Viewing in the spring or after a big rain gives you a good view of the massive power of the river.

Great pace to walk to the Stone Arch bridge with a terrific view of the river from the bridge. Parking is limited

Need I say more? It's a functional lock and Dam that supplied the Ford Motor Plant with electricity It is however, just east of Minnehaha Falls and in the summer, that's a don't miss sight in South Minneapolis. So, check out the Lock and Dam but don't miss the "Falls"

An enjoyable place to stop and relax. Not a lot of barge traffic to see anymore but occasional pleasure craft lock through. Perhaps the best view of the river in town if you head out on the catwalk. They have an open house each July, hit that and you also get full tour of control tower.

We have brought our 2 kids here several times. They love it! There is a parking lot to park in and everything is free! It is only a short walk to overlook the lock and dam.
