You can ride a bike around all three lakes at once or take a drive, but this is truly one of the most beautiful places Minneapolis has to offer.

I am a local. We go to the chain of lakes in the spring for a walk and enjoy the fresh air. It is the setting for a local ski race called the City of Lake Loppet in the winter. It is a great place...More

I particularly enjoy kicking the Lake of the Isles. I find it relaxing away from the hustle and bustle of the city itself, great people watching also.

Every time we visit friends in the Twin Cities, we make a point of driving around at least some of the beautiful lakes in Minneapolis. All the lakes (I think there are over 20) are connected with bike and walking paths and every lake has...More

This is definitely one of my favorite part of the city, for sure! Whatever mood you are in, there is a lake for you. Lake of the Isles is more laid back, not as busy and has the cutest houses around it. Best part, in...More

We live in an amazing city, lakes and paths around the lakes, restaurants, people watch, bike trails, flowers to look at and the fun one Lake Harriet with Mr. Little Guy's tree, which is a real find!

We saw the Chain of Lakes during a tour, but were unable to get out and take a lakeside walk like we wanted to. That’s on my to-do list, and I hope I get better weather for photography. Water is a magnet for all kinds...More

The lakes are surrounded by walking and cycling trails, with opportunities for yachting, canoeing and paddleboarding on the water. There are lots of amazing (and very expensive) houses around the lakes which are as impressive as the water, if not more so. Lyndale Park is...More

In regard to bike/kayak rentals, you will have to call the Park Board to get answers to that. On Saturdays, I would go early to mid morning. More people will be visiting the parks if the weather has been cold/rainy and that... More

Rentals close down lakes around mid-october, but you might find a them on street in Uptown, Hennepin and Lake area -- and two lakes about five blocks south. Best time is late morning to mid-afternoon.
