- lmhill20236 contributionsGreat place to stop off in the city. This was a really fun thing to see. Due to the sub-zero temperatures and accompanying wind, we were not able to make the 2 mile hike, we just walked from the parking lot to the falls. But it was well worth taking the time to see them frozen. I would definitely recommend taking 10-15 minutes to take a walk and take a look.Visited January 2024Travelled with familyWritten 18 January 2024
- StacieA915Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin168 contributionsBeautiful escape in the cityWe wanted to walk off our excellent supper at Osteria I Nonni so came here to see the falls and do a little walking. Such a beautiful place and it rained recently so the flow of the water over the falls was great (lack of rain affects that obviously). Went down the stairs and walked the path up a ways. I think the trail goes out about 2 miles. The part we were on was very easy to walk on and it was pretty along the river even though the day was kind of dreary. A restaurant is right close by if you want to grab a bite to eat as well.Visited April 2024Travelled with familyWritten 1 May 2024
- TriCityDudeSaginaw, Michigan835 contributionsAmazingly big falls! Great park 10 min from airport! So worth the visit! Huge falls right within the city in a huge park. Lotsa room to hike and comfortably busy with people. So glad we took the 10 min drive from the airport to check it out! Parking does cost, but this place is worth it. Hike down to the base of the falls then go on the trails….you are deep in the woods in the valley, yet right in the city. Awesome!Visited May 2024Travelled with familyWritten 13 May 2024
- Teacher91 ❤Temple, Texas48,774 contributionsBeautiful Morning WalkThe Mr. and I drove to the Minnehaha Park for a morning walk. What a tranquil, beautiful space. The walk was a joy. Everything was so GREEN. The air was crisp and cool and the flowers were vibrant and colorful. We followed the crowds to the falls and did a little photo shoot. Further on our walk, we found families frolicking in a small pooled off area. On our way out, we encountered the John H. Stevens House and read the informational signage to find out what makes it special. I hope one day to return and find it open. I'd love to tour it. All in all, a great morning out while visiting MN.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 9 June 2024
- JohnRegoParkRego Park, New York1,242 contributionsA beautiful natural diversion in downtown MinneapolisThis lovely set of falls conveniently cascades in downtown Minneapolis. You can walk over the falls on a bridge, or scramble down a series of staircases to a viewing point near the base of the falls. Photos of people standing right next to the falls are photos of people going where the signs prohibit trespassing. Nearby there is a cafe and a playground. You can park in a metered lot, but there is also ample parking in the neighborhood nearby for free.Visited June 2024Travelled with familyWritten 18 June 2024
- TravelingBenderCincinnati, Ohio87 contributionsFun spotWhat can I say about flowing water? It draws you in, it spits you out! It brings up emotions that calm and also rage. This is the best park in the area and the waterfall is incredible. I would say the waterfall, park, and proximity to the city makes this place perfect. It can be crowded on the weekend so be careful not to get pushed in.Visited June 2024Travelled with familyWritten 24 June 2024
- TrinaSalt Lake City, Utah510 contributionsPut on the top of your Minneapolis list!!Guys, honestly, don’t miss this attraction!! First, the falls and park are gorgeous (where very little effort is needed to get to the falls). My group went in July and there was such a fun market going on, with food, music and craft booths. Be aware, the market closes down by 6pm - and we visited on a Saturday.Visited July 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 23 July 2024
- Mickie MTroy, Michigan44 contributionsA must see for all agesBeautiful falls in the middle of the city. Easy to get to and easy to navigate. A great place to visit for all ages. Surrounding park and trails - you can easily spend as much or as little time exploring as you like. Falls/park are free; parking is $2/hour and well worth the money. The area was clean and safe and relaxing.Visited September 2024Travelled soloWritten 18 September 2024

It was a little tricky to work out where best to park for the falls as one of our party had limited mobility and couldn't walk too far to find them. It's pay for parking mostly ($1.50 per hour in peak time), coin or card. The falls were worth seeing and there were other things in the same area, including a cafe.

Depending on the time of day, parking can be tricky and only pay parking available (unless you have handicap tags) but it’s a short and relatively easy walk to the falls. Either direction you enter, you will go down hill or steps. Took us less than a minutes walk from road side parking. The path around the area is easy walking and peaceful when not crowded.

Lovely park. We stopped at the top of the falls first and then took the stairs down (a bit of a walk down for young kids but you can totally access the top without stairs). Gorgeous falls with all the fall colors. After seeing the falls, we drove towards the Mississippi River outlook (pretty, but it’s behind a fence) and playground. The playground is awesome. They have a younger kids part and an older kids one. There are also portapottys near the playground. They were very clean and had hand sanitizer available, although I’d still recommend bringing your own in case they’re out, we used the map on the website

Visited Minnehaha Falls (and Park) in late April when there was a good flow of water over the falls. There was still some ice around the falls too. There is a Car Park close by the falls that is just $1.50 for an hour which was plenty of time to see the falls and to take the steps down from the top of the falls to walk a while along a trail beside the Minnehaha Creek. Nice falls worth a visit but hardly Niagara.

Average trip. We arrived at approximately 8 am and made our way towards the entrance of the trail to view the falls. There were a numerous amount of ways to view the falls, including by looking over the barrier, or by walking down several flights of stairs down to the bottom of the falls. Each view provided picturesque views of the waterfall. Down the stairs leading to the waterfall, was another trail that brought you alongside the stream and through a series of trails. My main reason for only giving this attraction 3 stars is the fact that there was graffiti and trash spewed all over the place, along with several sections of the trail that were closed and dilapidated looking due to poor maintenance.
Tip: I recommend spending 30 minutes here if you truly want to see everything.

What a gem to find….. cute little hiking trails along the creek which lead to a beach area where you can look around and head back to end at the gorgeous waterfall. Such a fun outdoor activity and at the top there’s an amazing little seafood restaurant that has awesome food and organic wine on tap 🥰 made our trip!!!

The waterfall is situated in Minnehaha Park, a beautiful green area along the Mississippi River a ten minutes drive from downtown Minneapolis.
Good paid parking options are available nearby and the area around the falls is really nice, especially on a sunny day. The waterfall is beautiful and although some of the paths were closed during our visit it was possible to have some nice views.

Pay to park park, Waterfall was nice, lots of trash and graffiti though. Plenty of area to walk and enjoy nature. Saw ducks and lots of cool birds. The one house was under contruction and the signage needs some work as it's dated and unreadable.

If you just want to see the falls, it doesn’t take long at all. The falls itself is not large. But if you want to see the falls and the park, I would say an hour or two. I spent about two hours to see the falls and walk around some of the park.

How many steps is it down to the bottom of the falls..thx
Written 15 September 2019
Do if you park in the lots it is possible to walk to the falls with no steps, the big park is st the top of the falls. If you use the west side street parking I am guessing 14-28 steps. If you wish to hike the bottom of the falls I would estimate 22-26 steps. There are landings and people of all skills so if you go a few and rest no worries. The falls are beautiful from the top. I’m estimating but it’s s bit of exercise to do the walking

I'm unsure of the actual hours, but this is a city park and it appears that there were lights. I'm not sure I would walk around really late at night for safety reasons.
Hope this helps.

Can you walk underneath the waterfall when it's frozen?
Written 29 January 2019
No you can’t walk under the falls. You can get very close to the falls from the viewing area and walk all around the surrounding area.

Are there many people walking around this area on a weekday? Just wondering about safety, as I am going alone
Written 8 October 2018
It varies. There are more people on a sunny day

We are coming to Minneapolis for the first time and flying into St. Paul’s airport. As we are not sure what to do or were to stay other than the city. We were wondering if this would be suitable and not to far away from the airport as we are only there for four days

Minnehaha Falls are very close to the MSP airport. It is a beautiful area for walking or just enjoying the beauty if you like to be out of doors.
