Admittedly I do not have a good grasp of the history surrounding the monument. Those well versed probably would enjoy the experience much more than a casual observer. It's a centerpiece of the town and an easy stop for a few minutes.

If you are a fan of the books by Wilhelm Moberg, you must see this statue which represents beautifully the conflict of leaving home vs. immigrating for a better life.

Fictional Swedish characters are immortalized in this monument stemming from author Moberg's books on immigration to Minnesota. The sculptor shows Kristina looking back toward her homeland and Karl looking forward to their new life in Minnesota.

This is a special place for all who got relatives who moved to the United States in the eighteen hundreds or in the early nineteen hundreds (or if you are living in the US but has a Swedish ancestry). The monument itself is not special...More

If visitors have not read the Moberg books about Swedish immigrants to America then this monument will lack the deep meaning. There is a so much in this simple yet profound monument to the early settlers depicted on Moberg's books -- Swedes desperate to find...More

It's a metal statue in a very small area outside the local paper. It's interesting if you are interested in the fictional story of Karl Oskar. It is usually something the kids point out every time we drive by it. So go see it if...More
