Join the fun of traveling the first railroad route into Duluth, a 6-mile historic train journey following the beautiful St. Louis River Estuary in Western Duluth. One hour & fifty minute ride is filled with history, wildlife and incredible scenery. It's the closest view of the river without getting wet! Enjoy the two vintage 100-year-old passenger coaches and the 1946 switch engine. Step outside to ride the Safari Car and experience nature at its best! Wander through the cars freely. Listen to the narration that includes rich Ojibwa history and learn about local landmarks. See views of Duluth that only can be seen by the train with unobstructed views of the lush forested area, grassy meadows, and panoramic views overlooking Wisconsin. See islands that can only be seen by railroad or water. Travel along the 12,000 acre freshwater estuary that as some of the best walleye, Muskie and bass fishing in the state. Check out our Choo Choo Paddle kayak/can shuttle service as well.

What a wonderful attraction that gets very little attention! This 2-hour train ride travels along the St. Louis River west from West Duluth (across from the Zoo) to Gary New Duluth, and back. At many points, you feel as if you are gliding along the...More

I enjoyed the ride on the train yesterday. It was well done, nice equipment, interesting commentary, nice views, very historic. I would recommend that they allow boarding much earlier rather then everyone standing in a long line for no apparent reason.

What a nice ride on this historic train. The volunteers were wonderful and the narrative was very interesting. This was well worth the fee and a wonderful part of the day. A big thankyou to the volunteers that devote their time!

We went on the 90 minute ride up the North Shore a ways and back. It was fun to see what it was like to ride on a train. We were able to see some of the city that we would have not seen otherwise.

Fun informative trip. Train and track very old. The conductor gives a good oral history lesson, not much to see but the scenery is beautiful.

There are 2 train rides in Duluth. The other heading North is great but this is even better especially if you want to see wildlife and follow right along the St Louis River! It departs right across the street from the Lake Superior Zoo so...More

Went on the train on July 26th. What a great trip. All volunteers operate this train. About one hour and 40 minutes. A great way to learn some history of the Duluth area.
