Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We’ve come to Traverse City as a family for years and have always had a wonderful time. So disappointed this year as they work to cater to a partial crowd and steer away from wholesome family activities. They have a very strong campaign for wearing face masks everywhere and are bossy and rude about it!! Even outdoors on the streets.
Felt so uncomfortable and unwelcome this year!! Not sure we will be back

We thoroughly enjoyed walking about downtown Traverse City on a sunny Saturday afternoon, enjoying the murals and historical architecture, doing some people watching, popping into the small boutiques, grabbing a bite here, a drink there. You can move at your own pace, spend a little or a lot of time and/or money. It's up to you!! And from Front Street, you can walk down to the waterfront parks and sit and enjoy the sunshine and the water, or you can walk to see the beautiful Victorian houses of Sixth Street or the Purple House on State Street, among other historic homes. Note that some establishments still require masks; it wasn't a problem for us.

My family of 4 including a 15 & 16 year old visited on a sunny 90 degree August day for 3 or 4 hours because we became separated. I felt it was a waste of our precious vacation time, however ~ my teens thought if was "ok." Perhaps if we hadn't went during the sunniest & most humid part of the day we might have enjoyed it more. An evening visit, might have been much better. Stopped in for some incredible Moomers Cupcake ice cream and NO regrets on that except other ice cream will now just taste blah in comparison! So, so good!

I wish the shop owners would embrace the recent covid recommendations. On our recent visit we were met with lots of skepticism and fear. It made our trip there much less fun. Fully vaccinated people are now free to be in public without masks knowing that they are protected however it was as if this news hadn't been shared with many people in TC. I have always followed the science. I recommend it.

Nice shopping and dining strip. Places seemed under staffed but the employees were still friendly and helpful in places. Overall a nice experience. Parking was not too expensive and there seemed to be ample spots available.

It took us over a day- we had to go back the next day to see everything and try to eat everywhere. Lots of shops, the candy store was really nice , it had signs from the hippie days the would be collectors items. The Italian restaurant there, I think it was called the American Noodle- Kind of a strange name but Food was very good and old Italian. Morrsel was also very good and delicious. Don;t think I spelled that right but great donut shop and coffee shop.

A few blocks of the street are closed to auto traffic, which is very helpful.
Both sides of the street are lined with (mostly small and attractive) shops.
The area appears to be well maintained.
The shops offer a wide range of items for sale.
However, the number of bargains appears to be a little few and far between.
Overall, a pretty place well worth a visit.

Front Street is great! There are one-of-a-kind gourmet restaurants, unique clothing stores, multiple coffee shops, and great places to find just about anything you would need for yourself or for a gift. During the Christmas shopping season, the street is lit up and many stores offers competitive sales. In the summer the stores stay open late and it is bustling with locals and tourists.
Some of my favorite places are the restaurants, Georgina’s, and Red Ginger; the book store Horizon Books; and American Spoon Foods.
Check it out, but be prepared to walk a bit. There is a lot of downtown parking, it is just hard to get a spot right on the street.

We spent one evening walking along the street, which is closed to vehicles. Lots of cute little shops to look at and places to get an ice cream or drink. We stopped in at a lovely independent book store. I was impressed at the number of theaters as well!

Obviously cold/snowy mid-March days cut down the hustle & bustle outside on the streets; but there are still plenty of options to fill one's browsing/shopping/dining needs.
We especially enjoy the architecture of many of the older, more original structures.
A great area to spend some time in season (or out).

I spend a few weeks in Harbor Springs with my dad each summer but this year I have a good friend coming up for only 3 days and flying into Traverse City. I told her I'd drive down to pick her up, then take her back to the airport 3 days later. I'd LOVE to use the travel time to and fro to discover new things in Traverse City and between there and Harbor Springs. Please give me some advice on the very best things to see and do.

I think a drive out to the end of the Peninsula, Old mission, would be great. If you're into wineries, there are tours and many to choose from out there, plus the beauty of the drive. Usually see eagles out there fishing the shores. We have some cute unique stores on Front St. for shopping. Lunch I'd suggest The good bowl, great food. Driving back to Harbor Springs, maybe go through Elk Rapids, cute stores nice shore line. Harbor Springs is a very nice area too, not sure how much "sights" is too much.

Gluten free restaurants or menus in the area for my 13 year old?
Written 9 July 2017
Although I can't answer with certainty, it's a very up and coming city, so I'm sure gluten free is an option. I would check the menu online first to be sure!
