I am always fascinated when history meets progress and the Village at Grand Traverse Commons is a terrific example of community/business partnership. Originally slated to be torn down, dedicated townspeople encouraged development. The result is relatively spectacular! The beautiful buildings have been maintained; new businesses...More

Took the tour, received a little snapshot of the sanitarium's history. Excellent tour that took you into places you would not have otherwise had access to - the steam tunnels underground and the buildings under construction. You'd have to ignore some of the political commentary...More

Perfect rainy day shopping in an interesting historical venue. The stores are upscale, classy and artistic. Parking is free and convenient. There are many restaurants along with cafes serving coffee, ice cream and cheesecake. A very enjoyable experience.

Many interesting shops. I commend Traverse City for repurposing these historic buildings instead of just tearing them down. The interiors and grounds have been beautifully restored. Be sure to visit Landmark Books--GREAT independent bookseller with an outstanding collection of modern American fiction, reasonably priced. The...More

Interesting place to go to shop. Neat stores, but kinda pricy. Go and look around if you have the chance.

This was a wonderful experience. Our tour guide Joe was so knowledgeable, interesting and fun, he took this from a good tour to a great one!!! It was fascinating to learn how this asylum operated. This is so worth the money spent!!!!!

We were on the 2-4 tour this past Sunday and he was the guide. He didn't mention whether he had done the morning tour or how often he works.
