Very quaint little place to visit.

This was filled with little shops and restaurants. All of the workers/shop proprietors were very friendly and helpful to our party.

Never get tired of stopping for a little meandering at the COMMONS. From food, wine, shops, music... something good always happening.

This was a great experience. We hiked in the back of the commons to find the hippie tree and then walked and shopped the Mercato inside the commons.

This place is very unique! Who would think to put shops and restaurants in an abandoned insane asylum? But the concept really works. We had a great tour around some of the abandoned buildings and the underground tunnels. Our guide was very friendly and knowledgable. I think the tour could have been improved by setting up some of the rooms... More

As a first time visitor to Traverse City, this shopping & dining area is worth a trip. We found unique stores- made several purchases. The space is large & roomy with tastefully appointed details, so wear comfy shoes to stroll about. The shop keepers were engaging & welcoming. Original art is displayed along hallways in one area for purchase. There's... More

I had a lot of fun with a friend of mine on the State Hospital Tour. We learned a lot and had a lot of fun. The tour guide was passionate about the place and very knowledgeable. We were able to go into one building and the tunnels. My only complaint is that we didn't go into more buildings. I... More

We always include a visit to the Commons when we visit Traverse City. We like poking around the stores and always find something good to eat or snack on. We particularly enjoy the Saturday morning market that's held indoors during the winter and early spring.

They offer wonderful 2 hour tours of the asylum and allow time for picture taking at only 25 dollars a person it was more then worth it! Some of the asylum has been redone and now holds... More

Located in former abandoned state mental hospital, this refurbished series of buildings houses boutiques, great restaurants, salons, offices and residences. So good to see reused and updated instead of tear down of old properties. Saturday morning farmer market. Check out restaurants etc on peripheral grounds.
