This tourist attraction is a little difficult to describe. Let's start with Father Marquette. He grew up in France and became a missionary. Marquette was assigned to the New World, stationed in Quebec starting in the 1660s. French influence extended all the way down to...More

There's not much to see here-- a relatively simple structure and some text-based exhibits. It's super close to the I-75 approach to the Mackinac Bridge so traffic noise is inescapable. There is a good view of the bridge if you walk in a bit farther,...More

There isn't a lot to see, but it's worth a stop. You'll find Father Marquette tributes and info in several places in and around Mackinac Island.

There is a nice covered area with info on Father Marquette. The really isn't that much info though. Farther back there is a very nice scenic overlook.

The memorial is very nice, but the presentations might need a wipe-down or replacement. I like the walk. I thought the presentation did a nice job of explaining who Father Marquette was.

Nice big park and a short hike to the memorial and a bit longer to the overlook. The french priest and explorer is credited with being the earliest explorer in the area. As a missionary he learned the local languages, Apparently there was also a...More
