This is a great zoo with a couple of really special attractions - the Arctic Ring of Life, which is home to a group of polar bears, and the Polk Penguin Conservation Center, which is unique to any other penguin exhibit in the world. Both exhibits are set up so you can observe the animals as they swim in the... More

The new penguin Exhibit is a must see. It is so fun to just watch these magnificent penguins swimming and having so much fun. We were there to see their newest member, a two month old giraffe. She was a darling.

Once again I visited the zoo for the light display. Very beautiful display of lights. Enjoyable evening. I will start with the positives- lots of lights, very beautiful. They reversed the walk from last year---this is really good because the area where everyone must walk through ( an indoor area where Santa is) Is further along the walk and people... More

Loads of lights on a circular walkway, not so many animals viewable. The reptile center, otter and beaver exhibits only animal areas open. Other areas were open but as it is dark you cant see the animals. There is a santa and crafts, as well as, two light displays set to music. There is food and drink available along with... More

The penguins are a must see. The only thing separating the little kids and the penguins was a sheet of glass. The butterfly exhibit is also great. I don't recommend the cafe. Bring something to eat. Now it the time to go. Some exhibits a closed but there is no one else there.

Visited on a cold and overcast Saturday with friends. I haven't been to the Detroit Zoo in about 15 years, and I'm glad to say that alot hasn't changed, but that's not a bad thing. We walked a little over four miles during our visit. Not all the exhibits are available, since some of them are not able to tolerate... More

Visited on a colder day but the sun was out to help with the chill, walked around for almost four hours which was not enough time to see everything. The new penguin exhibit is really nice and a job well done, was given some great information from a zoo volunteer. Since a lot of the African exhibits were winterized we... More

Went to the zoo last night for the Wild Lights. It was a nice little walk around the zoo. There were lots of families with children, as I should have expected. I honestly felt that the lights were mediocre and was nothing really spectacular. I would have liked more dancing lights or more extraordinary displays. I wasn't necessarily expecting to... More

This zoo is average at best. I've been a couple times living in the area and more often than not the majority of the animals are no where to be seen. And going with a large group of adults and kids not seeing any animals is a huge waste of time and money.
