Continuing our trek up the Sunrise Side of Michigan, the next state park you'll come to as you head north is P.H. Hoeft, five miles north of Rogers City. Wow! What an amazing park that no one seems to have heard of! I could not...More

What a nice camping experience. This is a very peaceful state park. Our site was clean, spacious, and quiet. What more so you want? This park also has a nice sand beach on Lake Huron. Would definitely make this a destination again.

I believe this is one of Michigan's older State Parks, so it does seem to be a little more "tired" than a lot of other State Parks. But the setting on Lake Huron is beautiful and the employees seem to keep the place up as...More

Absolutely beautiful park! The beach was small because the water is higher, but there is a sandbar not too far from shore. We were there just before the Nautical Fest. There was lots to do in Rogers City, it's a great town! Friendly people!

The ranger was nice and the showers were got with great pressure. The beach was a decent walk from camp but they had a fairly new play ground area for children. There are quite a few trails and the beach is long and clean

I grew up traveling to State Parks throughout Michigan, and I had never heard of this one, but stumbled upon it when researching our trip to the 40 mile point light house. I'm so glad we stopped here. It was one of the nicest beaches...More

This state park was difficult to hike in because the black flies were biting when we walked to the beach. Those little suckers bite right through clothing.

Two visits now--lovely place, right on Lake Huron, with a nice little beach. Lots of tall trees and warblers. Near other trails and great shoreline drive.

My husband and I have reservations for July and I was wondering how the bathrooms are? Cleanliness and functionality of the toilet shower etc are? Tia.

The bathrooms are typically clean, but you never know if other campers are less than neat. There are the "new" and "old" bathrooms. The new bathrooms were built in the early 70's, so that tells you how old the "old... More

We are contemplating a visit in late July or early August. The reviews seem decent for the most part, but there is the recurring comment about the "black flies". Is this a problem just during certain months or conditions, or is this prevalent throughout the area? Our oldest daughter is very susceptible to mosquitos and flies. This would pretty much ruin things for her.

I see your question was answered, but I would like to add some information. We always stay at Hoeft the first two weeks in August. We have been going at that time for nearly 30 years and have never had black fly problems... More
