Step into the past at Old Victoria, where nothing is behind glass! Explore four restored hand-hewn log cabins in their original locations, remnants of the Victoria Copper Mining Company and the copper mining industry that put the Upper Peninsula on the map. See where the miner's families lived and learn about their day-to-day life, struggles, and accomplishments. Join us on the 3rd Sunday of August for the annual Old Victoria Craft Fair, where the grounds come alive with arts and crafts, old-fashioned kids games, and the famous Victoria Cinnamon Rolls, baked fresh from scratch in the woodstoves. Old Victoria is open daily from mid-June to the first day in October. Special mine site ruins tours available by appointment.

The staff on hand is always more than willing to offer a quick history lesson, or answer any questions you my have. The cabins the miners lived in with their families were abandoned years ago and left to rot. A small group of people believed there was a story to be told and to date have resurrected six cabins and furnished them with stoves, beds, tools, etc. typical of that area and era. Since my great grandfather lived in one of the... More

Wayne - Thank you so much for the wonderful review! I, too, am a descendant of Victoria and we love the chance to meet the many descendants of the families that braved this wilderness during the copper mining boom. I'm glad to hear that Victoria touched your heart and thank you for appreciating our efforts in preserving this valuable piece... More

Old Victoria is a partial reconstruction of an old ghost town. We have been here a couple times and have found the volunteers to be very enthusiastic. This place is really a testament to the civic pride and love of their history that the people in the area have. This was a small town owned by a small mine but... More

You are 100% correct, our volunteers are very enthusiastic and put their hearts and souls into preserving this piece of the copper mining history for future generations. We are also located right on the North Country Trail, which makes for excellent hiking opportunities, and the Victoria Dam is a must-see when... More

In the middle to late 1800's there was a bustling mining town call Victoria. It had many homes and structures during this busy era. When the copper mines closed down the town closed and people moved away. Most of the buildings and houses went to ruins. But the Historical Society and locals have managed to save a few of the... My visit was not during the regular season, and I knew there wouldn't be anyone there but I was in the area. I was looking around for good pictures of a spectacular color season. It was interesting to see the old buildings, and it's remote enough I really felt I could imagine what it was like before the days of... More

Thank you for sharing your experience in the Victoria area! I'm sorry to hear that you missed our open season and a chance at the tour through the four restored log homes. You are exactly right about the road in - it really makes us think about the challenges of travel when the Victoria Copper Mining Company was in operation!... More

We drove down to Old Victoria even though the sign on the road said it was closed. The buildings are impressive but there were flies and knats everywhere. We've seen better old buildings than these. The women was interested in talking to another man about the electrical history (which didn't interest us) so we left. I guess there is a... More

This is a reconstructed village that served a local copper mine. We were able to tour several small cottages on the site, and learned about the people who lived here when the mine was operating. People have donated many artifacts which helps to bring the site to life. There is a dam that is currently being worked on, so we... More

My wife and I stopped on our trip. This city is a nice restoration but nothing too exciting. We did not take a guided tour but rather walked around the premises. Unfortunately the damn was closed on our trip so we did not get to see that portion of the restoration.

Old Victoria is dominated by a well run museum which includes a reconstructed village from the copper mining days in the mid 1800's. The docent did an excellent job with the tour and gave many interesting facts and stories of the people who once lived there. The museum continues its reseach and is constantly adding more artifacts to its collection.... More

We stumbled across Old Victoria Restoration on our road trip to the UP. It was a great find. We're not really history buffs and we don't usually go to historical museums like this.
