Major site of Aquitaine, Listed as Historic monument. Stop for Sunday strollers, this barony will enchant art and history lovers. Two castles from different periods, built on a rock terrace surrounded by a rampart, are overlooking the Dronne.

There wasn't a great deal to see and it was a bit uninspiring inside. The restoration seemed unsympathetic.

It's a very interesting chateau because it also has the 12th century castle. Be sure to get the 3 euro audio tour in English... it has short snippets and really adds to the self guided tour.

The two different chateau buildings here - medieaval and renaissance - provide a fascinating contrast in buildings and life in the two periods. Both buildings are in superb condition and it is great to see further work currently underway on the renaissance building. The hike...More

Bourdeilles the castle can be viewed from around the area so try to imagine what it's like standing on top of that tower. The castle itself is very pretty but if it wasn't for the tower I would not do it again. Though when you're...More

The main chateau is currently being renovated, but despite the scaffolding it is a great place to visit, with cool interiors and a great collection of furniture. I also climbed up the tower (110 steps, not for the faint hearted) which yielded a great view...More

The ancient medieval keep is very basic (empty) inside, but you get a good feel for the space and the audio guide is very good (and multi-lingual.) If you climb all the way to the top, there's a great view in all directions. The second...More

This was a very interesting visit. An old castle with a spiral staircase and breathtaking views of The Dronne valley and a Renaissance chateau complete with three floors of rooms. Not to missed if you are in the area. We were there out of season....More

We used the audio guide for our small group and it was helpful to learn more of the history of the site as well as the furnishings inside. The steep walk up is worth the effort to see the view and adjoining landscape. We were...More

Visiting Périgord in December there are not so many places open to the occasional visitor but we were very pleased to visit Bourdeilles on a bright sunny afternoon. The staff in the reception area and shop were very helpful and we enjoyed our visit. It's...More
