We stumbled upon this church by accident but were glad we did. It was certainly impressive. Definitely try and check it out if you're in the area.

Please be sure to tour the Subtiaba neighborhood. These are the indieginous of Nica. And the ones who built the city of Leon on the blood and backs of their ancestors. As hot as it was outside, the church on the inside is nice an...More

Pretty impressive for being made of wood and having survived so much history. Interior woodwork is carved and beautifully painted. Side altars are stunning examples of Latin american baroque style. Contrast this with the cathedral in Leon. It's a nice walk from Leon, a quick...More

This church's most important function is probably as an orientation point. It rarely opens (I think only for mass) and looks a little sad with the color peeling of. The "park" in front doesn't help much as it is even more hopeless. Before national day...More

This looks okay form the outside. but could use a paint job and the landscaping in its nearby park tended to. It was not open, so I have no idea what it looks like inside.

Construction was started on this church in 1698 and completed in 1710. The interior has very large wooden beams and on there is a large pagan sun etched in the dome to placate the indigenous people who worship here.
